I don't believe that list is updated because I seem to remember Coach Hicks passing 700 a year or 2 ago.

You may be correct. This doesn't count last season's numbers per the KHSAA website. So however many the active coaches won last year is not included.

How old is the man?

 

I'm not sure of his exact age, but I believe he was coaching at Powell County in 1969. I was a freshman in high school at that time. I am almost 55, so I'd guess Fraley is at least in his mid 60's.

It would have been before 1969, as Robert Graves is listed as the coach for their two state champ teams. From everything I've read about hoops in the pre-desegregation era, Central had some incredible teams.

Why did Knott owe this the chance to have one year to go out on top at the expense of their program? He won 5 games last time out. Would he have taken a job that needed rebuilding? Knott must have owed him a lot to let him have one last shot.

And just because he only won five games in that last season doesn't mean the guy's not a great coach. He just got caught up in a bad situation and lost control of the team. It's happened to better coaches, and that's saying something when you're talking about a guy with 600+ wins.

He created the situation that made him lose control...The reason he stepped down was his principal at the time told him he needed to punish a player for a incident with a rival......... he walked instead.....Didn't agree with the Grey Fox.......ooops did I say that??

Fraley retired from Pulaski Co. for a few years -- three seems to stick out in my head -- but returned I think at least partially to top the 600-win mark and to rekindle the competitive fire. Things got kind of dicey his final season during the Perkins brothers' transfer situation, which led to his resignation that time. Sort of a "you can't go home again" situation.

Guess the competitive juices are flowing again for Dave. I saw him and Bobby Keith hanging out together at the Sweet 16. Maybe he'll come back, too.

Fraley thought he was still playing by 1970s and 80s rules. The comment I bolded in my earlier post was sort of a multi-layered one.

One thing for sure Dave Fraley can Coach. You may like how and what he does or dislike it, makes no difference, the bottom line is this guy can Coach.
