May 14, 200917 yr Nothing against Garnett, but compared to Russell and Duncan (both of whom have 4 or more championships each) and Malone, the league's 2nd all-time leading scorer and one of the greatest rebounders ever, IMO he is not in the same league. Russell and Duncan are legitamite agruements... But Malone isn't. I think he is great, and everyone already knows he is second on the all-time scoring list... But on this team there is no need for an additional scorer. What they need is Defense, Which Garnett or Russell would be able to provide.

If we are looking for defense, I'd consider Garnett over Malone. But I'd still take my boy Tim Duncan and his 12 NBA All-Defensive teams over any of them.

I know, but Duncan (smartly I might add) had 4 years of college) & Garnett had 0. Coming strait out of HS into the NBA is tough in my estimation for everyone not named Lebron James. Even Kobe had trouble his first two years.

He is 24, and this is the 1st year he has a team that can compete for a title. Marino never won a Super Bowl, do you think he shouldn't be a HOF'er? Titles are more about the people you play with than the player. Russell has the most is he the best player ever? NO. Titles go into the equation, but there is no Small Forward in the history of the game that I would take over LeBron right now.

His rival, Wilt, was better for one. Russell was a great player, but had the perfect set of circumstances as far as teammates and coach. Those people value titles too much. Titles are important, but it's not all there is. If so, then Luc Longley is as good as Kobe, and Byron Scott is a top 40 player all time.

Being a Hall of Famer and being one of the five best to ever play a sport... even more than that, the best ever at his position, are two different things. If we are making the list TODAY, LeBron is not on it JMO. Put him on yours if you want, I just disagree.
