May 12, 200917 yr ^ Agreed...I don't think thug has a racial connotation to it at all. I have met many white thugs. Thug has way more to do with swagger, and the way someone carries themself on and off the court rather than skin color.
May 12, 200917 yr Do a search on BGP in the "pro sports" section and see how many white guys are referred to as "thugs." My cursory search found Dwight Howard, Joey Porter, Michael Vick, and Hines Ward. In theory, a "thug" CAN be a white guy. Empiracal evidence tells us that its a reference to blacks.

Actually in the College BB forum there are multiple posts about Deavendorf being a thug and I found that called Bobby Knight a thug. I do believe that both of those fellas are white. But I do get your point that the majority of the time when some uses the term thug they are refering to a black person.

I never said 100% of the time but I'll bet its at least 80 to 90%.
May 12, 200917 yr "Thug" is a code word for "mean/punk black guy." Always has been. We see it on this board. Its never about a white guy. I have found the word thug to be offensive at times, but I don't think Cuban is a racist, I just don't see it. I do think many people use thug as a racist thing and stereotype many minority races, but I think Cuban is about as far from a racist as there is in NBA owners. Like I said he is a baby.

Let me be clear. I'm not saying that using "thug" is racist. I don't think Cuban is a racist either. However, as I've stated, very rarely is "thug" used with a white guy. Its a fine line between being racist and not being racist. Unlike people using traditional derogatory racial terms where they knew they what they were saying/implying I believe many people don't realize that the term they use , in this case "thug", is only/predominantly being used with one race. For those that disagree (and Robin Hood's boys don't count:laugh:) prove me wrong.
