I agree with you that it should have been a flagrant, and I don't think a suspension is warranted. HOWEVER, if the roles were reversed, there is little doubt in my mind that Artest would be suspended. Kobe and LeBron and them are like patents- the NBA is going to do everything they can to protect them. It is the hypocrisy, not the call itself, that is coming into question.

 

I agree with all of the above. Kobe and Artest are at the opposite end of the spectrum in regards to protection. Let's say it was Chuck Hayes elbowing Lamar Odom, does Hayes get suspended? I think not.

It boils down to: the call was missed during the game, the suspension would be wrong if the roles were reversed, but not much that can be done about it now, except for us sit around and complain, and watch 90% of the posters exhibit their extreme biases. :lol:

 

The hit reminds me of earlier this year when Henderson elbowed Hansborough, and I don't think he was suspended either.

Kobe clearly deserved a flagrant foul, but not a suspension like some of you are saying. Look at the replay. Artest was draped all over Kobe's back and was even pushing on Kobe's head. Kobe simply raised his arms and turned his upper torso which led to the elbow in the chest. I wouldn't consider that as big of a deal as some of you are making it out to be, and no way that warrants grounds for a suspension. Kobe never once lost his cool the way Artest did with the ref and then Kobe, after arguing with the ref.

 

I'm far from a Kobe fan. Just calling it the way I see it. Those types of things are apart of basketball and I can guarantee you they happen in 90% of games...only difference is most of the time players don't go "crying" the way Artest did to draw attention.

Kobe got what he deserved.

 

1. The difference between Kobe's case and the others mentioned is obvious. His occurred in the course of the play...he and Artest were locked up, battling for a rebound and it happened. Howard and Dalembert were locked up, but the elbow came after the ball went through the hoop and Howard had turned to run back up the court. Alston's was obvious...he smacked the guy in the back of the head after he ran past him. His suspension had nothing to do with how "dangerous" the attack was, but rather the blatant (and ridiculous) nature of it.

 

2. For those who think Kobe gets away with anything and everything, he has been suspended at least twice for catching guys with a flailing arm or elbow on jump shots...the league will sit him down if they deem it necessary.

It was simply two basketball players getting physical while going for a rebound. Nothing more, nothing less. Either could have been called for a foul on that play.

I will go as far as to say if it were not Ron Artest that received the elbow, we would not even be having this discussion today. His response to the elbow during the game prompted review of the play.

I would like to see Artest jack Kobe up really good before the series is over. The more I see Kobe the more I hate him.

Problem is, that is what the Lakers want (unless it ends in legitimate injury for Kobe, of course, with Artest might actually be possible). Artest needs to show some maturity and not let Kobe & Co. get in his head.
