Bottom of the seventh, one out and CovCath down by a score of 4-3 on a 0-1 count Maile sends the ball over the left field wall (400) to tie the score. Darner gets a single, man on first one out. Isler gets a single man on second and first one out. Holocher gets a single to load the bases with senior Lafever up to the plate. In Krumps fashion Lafever lays down a perfect squeez bunt to win the game over Franklin County 5-4.

 

CovCath played a perfect game not only by Nutini pitching, but the team defense.

Maile threw out a runner at third after a called strike in the second for the third out.

In the 5th Darner forces a runner at the plate, then Maile picks off a runner from first base. In the sixth CovCath turn a 5-4-3 double play.

 

This game ladies was a outstanding game whether CovCath won it or not.

 

I tip my hat to the Franklin pitcher, the young man can indeed throw some serious heat (low 90's on the gun).

 

The good: The "D" and the "P" you give me that and more times than not you win.

That is one of those stats that just blows me away every year when he keeps extending it. The guy is the face of NKY baseball no doubt.

Thompson threw a very good game, CC had to bunt quite often to put the bat on the ball, had a very hard time catching up with Sean's fastball. Pitched a awfully strong game.

CCH had a 11 hits according to theoldguy's statistics. Doesnt seem like they had to much trouble catching up to his fastball???

5 of the players in CovCaths line-up see that type of pitcing almost daily at the summer level. Darner, Holocher, Isler, Maile, and Nutini all play for the Kentucky Colonels and for Walt Terrel and it is the premier team to play for in Northern Kentucky. They play the best competition around and thus see some of the best players in the country. I can't speak for the other 4 players that would be in CovCaths lineup but for these 5 I would imagine they wouldn't have any type of trouble with this type of pitching...

Just because you have seen 90 before doesn't mean that it's not hard to hit. Thompson is a good pitcher, and even if you've seen someone throw that hard consistently, it doesn't make it an easy task to square it up.

Looks to me like CovCath has made a couple of statements in the last couple weeks. Good job guys!

 

I heard that Franklin Co's pitcher was VERY good and that most of the guys were indeed having a hard time catching up to him in the beginning, aside from Isler, Maile and Darner. Those three are just solid hitters who actually prefer that type of pitcher.

 

Good job to Brandon on a well pitcher game, and Brandon Lafever on what sounds like a heck of a bunt to win the game!

Now I never said it wasn't hard to it but it makes a less of a task when you've seen it numerous times for 2 years (will be 3 after this season) so it makes it that much easier. I agree its not an easy task and I wasn't trying to say that but its easier for some to hit than others when they have already seen and experienced that kind of pitching.
