Let's not put the cart before the horse...I do not believe that Alex Rodriguez has admitted that anything in this book is true. He used steroids as a Ranger; his records will be tainted with that fact. Let's heap only the criticism he desreves on his shoulders. If he admits that the allegations in this book are true, then let's revisit and we can talk about the ramifications at that time.

I liked ARod a lot. I was suprised but not shocked. There is nobody in that era that would shock me. It's a dissapointment but I don't live his life or walk in his shoes so I'm not going to beat him down. He was wrong and he admitted it. I agree I don't like that he half way admitted it or had to get caught first but honestly he had so much to loose and so little to gain from admitting it to a bunch of people he doesn't even know. I'm just tired of the whole steroid/baseball stuff.

I don't know if you could be a bigger baseball fan than I was growing up. Everyday throwing balls off the chimney+ pitch back if kids in the neighborhood weren't around. My wallpaper was all the baseball teams. Shelves full of hard hats and mini hats. Door covered in the 3D baseball cards etc. Then the strike came and ruined it all for me. I finally started getting back into the game when the HR era came around which is exactly what baseball wanted. I knew those guys were probably juicing but it was fun to watch. Then I hit a spell of just wishing it would all go away so I would know that all the guys playing were on a level playing field. Baseball is such a tradition ridden sport but it has lost a lot of it's pureness IMO. I think that it's getting better though which is exciting.

What about tipping your opponents pitches that your teammates were getting ready to throw? He could potentially have cost his teammates money in negotiations. Say that the same guy was the long reliever in blowouts and he pitched on 5-10 occasions that ARoid was tipping his pitches and it bumped all of his stats the wrong way. It's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard an athlete do that was legal. What kind of teammate does that? What kind of credibility does he have in a clubhouse? Why should we believe that he only did it in Texas? I mean he supposedly only did Roids while there too. He's a farce and a joke.

How do we know he hasn't? I don't know whether he has or not, but I just don't care.

Was Big Poppy on them? He sure has turned to pot since everybody started getting busted... he has also had trouble staying healthy since then....

Unless testing just started last season then that's not true at all. Last season was the first one that Papi has played in less than 149 games since his first season with the Sox in 2003. In 2003 he started out in a platoon situation before he got hot. He hit 54 homers as recently as 2006 and the next season hit 35 but also batted .332.

 

His drop off since then is due to the sheath that he tore in his wrist, it has led to a change in his swing where he has to cheat by starting his swing early in order to pull the ball. Doing that has robbed him of his pop to left field which was what made him so dangerous. Also, look at his body type--he's never exactly been ripped.

"From my perspective, it would be 99.9% impossible for us not to know," said Mientkiewicz, who was a year ahead of Rodriguez in school.

 

Mientkiewicz lashed out at Roberts, who broke the story that Rodriguez flunked a drug test in 2003 while playing for the Texas Rangers. The report forced Rodriguez to admit in February that he took banned substances from 2001 to '03.

Say what you want about ARod on roids but I've never heard a teammate talk about him that didn't say he outworks everybody he is around. He's wrong...he admitted it...move on.

As far as tipping pitches of other teams I would think that goes on way more than we know. Tipping pitches against your own team is garbage but it's real easy for me to start a rumour. Hey did you guys know Pujols is on roids and tips pitches that his own closers are thrwoing...that's why their closers have been so bad.

I'm not saying that Papi was 100% clean, without seeing all the test results there is no way to know, but to say that the heat just got turned up last season is 100% false. That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Who is going to listen to you? Did you write a book that is getting published? Wasn't she correct about her info that ARoid failed a test? Didn't he get caught in a lie before that but then change his story when people found out about the test? Dumb! Comparing a guy like Pujols to ARoid is laughable. I wouldn't be shocked if Pujols had some help along the way. Nothing anymore would surprise me, but until it comes out that he did them or failed a test to compare the two is laughable.

This has more credibility to me than what is in the book. I like that Doug was not afraid to put his name to this. I hate un-named sources...if it is true, put your name to it.

 

I'm not excusing A-Rod, but I'm not conceding that everything in this book is true without more info or an admission from A-Rod.
