On the other hand, Oregon State finished at 9-4 and was ranked 18th and 19th in the final polls. Mississippi, which beat Florida, was ranked 14th and 15th in the final polls.

OSU also only had the win over USC to bolster their resume. Ole Miss had two road wins over Florida and LSU. Top to bottom, Ole Miss in my mind was easily the better team. Oh, I know you're not. And I agree about the playoff ending debate. The cheating comment was more towards the original topic of "east coast bias" keeping USC out. I believe there are instances where bias exists towards the west, but I don't think it had anything to do with keeping USC out. The year USC got hosed the most (2003) they were #1 in both polls, and it was just a system that had nothing to do with biases that kept them on the shelf.

It's a business and a successful one at that. It's not like there aren't hundreds of other sources to find the information you're looking for on your team/sport.

ESPN is a business. They cover what we as consumers demand they cover. There is no (insert your term: east coast, ACC Basketball, Big East Basketball, SEC Football, Big 10 Football, northeast) bias. There is simply greater demand to hear about certain teams and certain stories. If you want more coverage of the Brewers and Reds pitching gems, get a local paper. Those are local stories with local interest. ESPN deals in national news.

You can not tell me that theya re not bias for the ACC! Kentucky mens basketball has the largest following in sports. I know this because everywhere I have ever traveled (whether it be Florida, Mrytle Beach, Boston, California, or Texas) has UK fans that I see that live there. I guarentee that most people get sick and tired of the Duke and UNC that Espn shoves down my throat. Yet, UK gets hardly any following unless they are hiring a new coach or firing another one. I hardly saw any UK highlights on the year, and if they were there they were short. Every show they eiter talked about how great UNC and Duke were, or talked about their weaknesses. IMO they are VERY bias in College Basketball towards the ACC.

Please don't mistake fan-dom for interesting. You can be a fan of one team and find another story interesting. ESPN targets interesting because that bring in the most viewers nationally. If we want to change programing, then simply don't watch. But remember, just because it isn't interesting to you does not mean that others are not interested.

Let's see ... North Carolina won the national championship. Duke was a high seed in the NCAA tournament. And Kentucky was in the NIT.

 

That might have something to do with it.

Florida lost at home to an unranked team with a losing record at the time. Oregon State was on the road. I just think if USC isn't playing Ohio State or someone big like that, they are either having to play on a Thursday night, or they are on the Fox Sports Channel. I don't know, I'm a little biased my self, my mom is a USC alum :thumb:

 

Ole Miss played in, and won the Cotton Bowl last year if I'm not mistaken....They were a MUCH better team than Oregon State.

You played catch-up on the weekends with national programs such as This Week In Baseball, Wide World Of Sports and Gene Michael's Sports Machine, among others. NBC's Game of the Week, MNF and Monday Night Baseball were must-watch programs as well.

 

In some ways it was better, because it encouraged people to remain loyal to their local teams.
