Jets Officially Release Favre...Another comeback coming?

Featured Replies

Vikes should say no way, IMO. Favre was great but he makes too many mistakes. A few bad interceptions and Peterson will become a non-factor running the ball because he won't get the touches. Harvin is more of a RB than a WR, so he would be hurt by this as well.

The Vikings need......Mike Vick. Laugh if you want, but assuming that he was still working out and running while in prison, he would still be one of the best athletes in the league. The Vikings don't need a great passer, they need someone who keeps his team in the game. Vick did that while he was Falcon. Despite horrible completion percentages and yardage numbers he still won. He isn't the most polished passer in the world but he has a great arm. Assuming he is anything close to the same ole Vick, he would team with Peterson and Harvin to make one of the toughest running attacks in the NFL. But, a drop back passer will have a tough time because Vikings recievers aren't as polished so a QB in Minny will see a stacked box because of Peterson and alot of heavy blitzes. Vick negates a lot of that.

The Minnesota Vikings haven't discussed the possibility of pursuing veteran quarterback Brett Favre. Yet.

Speaking on the first day of his team's rookie minicamp, coach Brad Childress said there hasn't been time to discuss the New York Jets' decision to release Favre. The move made Favre a free agent, raising speculation he was considering a return to the game despite releasing a statement in which he said his plans were to remain retired "at this time."

"We talk about everything," Childress said. "So yeah, I'm sure we'll talk about that."

Can't blame Brett for this rumor...he says he's done, but the Vikes will discuss bringing him in.

If Brett truly wants to play, I think he should play. A decision that only he can make in the end! Seems like this is not comin' from Brett's camp!

We are a bunch of people on a message board, we have our opinions, but I wander how many would like their lives constantly looked at and second guessed! I am willing to say: very, very few!

It makes for good fun and entertaining reading that is for certain!

Vikings... Here comes Favre.:lol::popcorn:

I don't think that Favre will come back or try to this time. I said that before and thought that he was done. When he couldn't go back to the Packers imo he should have stayed out even though he was still valuble up untill he got hurt, he had the Jets at 8-3 at one point I believe.

I believe that Brett Favre knows he is done this time. I hope so, looking at Favre's #4 in any jersey except for the Packers is imo just not right. Favre is one of if not my all time favorite NFL player and imo just may be the best QB to ever play the game but he needs to stay home and go huntin' and fishin'.

The writing is on the wall IMO he will be a Vike! Minn was in the playoffs with a QB they let go after the playoffs. They went and got a backup because they don't believe in Jackson. You are telling me that they wouldn't be a better team this year with Farve at QB and Percy Harvin in the slot. Farve to Minny would make them a contender IMO.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress and quarterback Brett Favre plan to meet at an undisclosed location later this week to discuss the possibility of the former Packers and Jets quarterback renouncing his retirement from the NFL to play the 2009 season with the Vikings, according to a source with direct knowledge of discussions between the two parties.

There is a mutual understanding that sometime soon thereafter Favre will decide whether to sign with the Vikings.

Curioser and curiouser... :D

I love it! If he can stay healthy and play like he did in the first half of last year, the Vikes are a Super Bowl Contender.

So that takes care of the first half. What happens when he throws numerous interceptions and loses six out of eight to close the year?

Let's just say Favre to the Vikings makes this Chicago Bears fan extremely happy!:thumb:

Do you think Frerotte,T. Jackson or a lifetime backup is better than Favre?:lol:

I think the best they do with any of the four is 9-7.

I think the talent and the offense in Minnesota is more condusive to winning for Favre. Favre as a Viking leads them to 11-5 IMO

1) Looking at the schedule, I think you can hope for 4-2 at best within the division.

2) You probably would except wins over Cleveland (A), San Francisco (H) and St. Louis (A) during the first five weeks of the season. 7-2

3) You have winnable home games with Baltimore, Seattle and Cincinnati dring the second half of the season, although this is traditionally/recent when Favre's numbers tend to dip a little. Let's say wins in two out of three: 9-3

4) That leaves four games: @Pittsburgh, @Arizona, @Carolina, N.Y. Giants @ home. Does anyone honestly see much success there? I'd say, at best, 1-3, which finishes the season 10-6.

So I'd say 10-6 is aiming high, and 7-9 is low end. That's probably about the same type of numbers that you could expect in Minnesota without Favre. The only problem is that you put in a year with him, and then have to play out the next offseason with the will he retire/won't he retire song-and-dance. I just don't think there is much reward (besides maybe making the playoffs, but probably not winning any games) in making this move.

Here's their 2009 Schedule and what I think they'll do

@Cleveland-W

@Detroit-W

San Fran-W

Green Bay-W

@St. Louis-W

Baltimore-L

@Pittsburg-L

@Green Bay-W

Detroit-W

Seatle-W

Chicago-W

@Arizona-W

Cincinatti-W

@Carolina-L

@Chicago-L

NY Giants-L
