Bishop Brossart 2009/2010

Featured Replies

I'm so glad someone else said it first. It's hard to believe that St. Henry, Bishop Brossart, and Silver Grove all made mistakes by asking or letting him leave.

Both the St. Henry and Brossart programs dropped off considerably after he left and I would suspect the same will happen at Silver Grove, so I would think that would explain whether he was a good coach or not. Although I guess he could have been just lucky to win over 400 games and average 20 wins a season for 20 seasons. I am assuming most bad coaches have those stats too. Must have been just all the talent he had and no coaching skill!

He did have a lot of talent. We played Brossart in the region finals after he left at Mason County so it didnt fall that far. Buser was scared. Changes don't always mean x's and o's.

Brossart is in the unique situation of having to compete with other schools, most notably NCC, and to a lesser degree Campbell County, for the players in our own district.

Perceptions arise about which program is better, and where the best opportunities lie, who is the better coach, etc., etc., on a year to year basis.

During the latter part of Kues' career at Brossart some of his players became disenchanted with the program, which fed down to some of the potential Mustangs in the feeder system, who chose to go to NCC as a result.

When the players who you are hired to serve no longer want to play for you, and your enrollment and program is suffering as a result, then it is time for a change - and a change was made.

Ray Kues' win-loss record is sterling. He is a 10th Region Girls Hall of Famer; a NoKy Athletic Director's Association Hall of Famer; and a 10th Region Girls Champion, in addition to being a good man. Yes, he has been blessed with talent. If anything, I think Ray suffered from, and showed signs of burn-out to some degree late in his Brossart career, and tended to get frustrated with his teams, and let that frustration show, all which contributed to his demise at Brossart.

Sometimes change is good. Unfortunately, Brossart did not benefit from the change, and presently NCC is riding a tidal wave with Ron Dawn at the helm. The same decisions face the players in our feeder system today.

I wrote my thoughts on what has to change in order to turn the program around on another thread in this forum. I stand by those thoughts. Coach Josh Grooms has his work cut out for him in restoring the confidence of our feeder school players and returning the program to past glory. We wish him the best in turning that corner.

Gee Mustang, you seem to know it all! You must be closely associated with the Brossart community. As far as Kues goes, he had one off year after 5 senior starters graduated. But then went on the following year to win the district ( I think they beat Campbell) and upset Harrison Co. in the first round of the regional. Burnt out? I thought he did a pretty good job with only one senior and one junior on that team. But there will always be people like you who give little credit where credit is due. A good friend of mine told me that it wasn't so much the players that were not happy, but some parents who thought their daughters where much better players than they actually were. But I was told those were few and far between. Most of the parents my friend has spoken to were pretty happy with his coaching. I guess it's just a matter of who you want to believe. But he no longer coaches there, so why not concentrate on the new coach? And those who live in glass houses should not be throwing stones.

Wow geez, kind of harsh comments against someone who does nothing more than spend most of his waking moments, trying to improve the lives of student athletes, and promote the game he clearly loves?? Your "friend" might try asking why Coach Kues consistantly had very few junior/senior athletes in his last few years??

His coaching ability should not be questioned here or anywhere, as his credentials speak for themselves; as Mustang clearly pointed out!! I think if you'd take time to read his post completely, you'll see it was mostly off the court issues that led to his demise at Brossart.

Right or wrong, he'd lost the team and the AD made a change. Didn't work out all that well in the W-L column, and time will tell if the new coach will be able to turn things around. Agree we should all support the new guy and wish him and the program well!!

I believe that Kues' replacement had around a 650 winning percentage. That is indeed a solid win loss record over the course of four years.

I don't have to defend Mustang in the slightest bit, but your comments are completely out of line here. Mustang is as passionate a person about the program that he is a part of than anyone I know. Every program needs a person like Mustang and I'm not talking about parents here. Personally, I think an apology is in order here.

Haven't seen any revolts or demonstrations like Iran when Kues was let go anywhere....why isn't the Silver Grove community storming the school? No one protested when our Buser lady was let go either and she won a lot with talent too

Getting back to the topic. I think that the stangs have a chance to win the 10th Region All 'A.' Could they win a game or two in the district or regional tournaments? It would seem that with Campbell being not as solid, that Brossart and Scott are the top teams in the district. Brossart has some good seniors returning and a few underclassmen that could contribute at the varsity level.

Just saw where the Mustangs signed former NKU standout Anthony Teague as their girl's varsity assistant coach. Nice young addition to their staff!!

The AD was talking about looking for a female to fill the JV position. Any ideas on who would be available? Is the old NCC coach around?

McDonald is around, but don't be looking for her at Brossart. My guess is that she will continue to spend time raising her family and watching them play.
