President Obama condemns Iranian leader

Featured Replies

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Obama said Tuesday that Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's recent characterization of the Israeli government as "racist" was part of a disappointing pattern that threatens to undermine the prospect of warmer relations between Washington and Tehran.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on called Israel a "totally racist government" during a U.N. conference on Monday.

"Sadly, [that kind of] rhetoric is not new," Obama said during a White House meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah.

"This is the kind of rhetoric that we've come to expect from President Ahmadinejad. ... Many of the statements that [he has] made, particularly those directed at Israel, [are] appalling and objectionable."

Good for him, glad to hear him call out Ahmadinejad. :thumb:

Did he shake his hand?

Actions speak louder than words but at least Obama is not saying it's our fault. Can't believe I'm saying it but kudos to O..

Did he shake his hand?

Or perhaps he gave him the "

Or the "boyz n da hood handshake" per Mr. Kudlow.

BO finally does something I approve of. Kudos.

Do you believe the same when you see a athlete do the same thing? I've see this done by many people long before President Obama and his wife done it. I use to do it with my son sometimes either before or after his basketball games.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with what Obama has done with regards to Iran and Chaves...up to this point. He was clear during the election that he would try a different tactic with these guys and he is. I don't think it's fair to expect immediate results.

I don't like the fact that he has been overly apologetic (IMO) for our country without calling to attention all the things we have done to help the world. I don't mind admitting we've made mistakes, but I think that has to be balanced with our good works. I also think he should have given a stronger reply to Ortega.

To this point, I'm willing to wait and see. If his new nicer policy doesn't make any headway, then at some point, he's going to have to drop the hammer on these countries. When or if it gets there, I'll judge him on how he responds.

But, for now, he's the president. He has a plan. And, I'm willing to give him a little time to implement it and see what the results are. Hopefully, he'll make it clear that he's willing to talk to them, but there are some expectations that they have to meet as well.

I do the same thing 5 times a day. I was making fun of the reporter who actually claimed that, and the people who got riled up about it...

I'm glad to here this kind of statment coming from Obama.

I am hoping he will make stronger statements in the future when someone bad mouths our country. I don't think we should be arrogant with other countries but I do believe in a position of strength, we are not conciliate. You can be understanding without being apologetic. Has our country made mistakes? Yes. But we made the best informed decision we could at the time. No need to apologize.

Not always. Sometimes we are wrong.

NWO - you've misinterpreted my post. Mine was a shot at Larry Kudlow who referred to the handshake as a "boyz n da hood handshake."
