April 27, 201214 yr I just came across this thread. Didn't see Virgil's mentioned (it's awesome...and it was featured on the Food Network). Their frog legs knock it out of the ballpark. Also haven't seen the Bellevue Bistro mentioned yet. Great lunch place - and I'd have to assume the dinner is solid too. Get the goetta-egg-and-cheese sandwich if you're there for lunch or brunch. It's KILLER good. I will second Clyde's comment about Buona Vita too. One of the best restaurants in Northern Kentucky for your money. Heck, it's one of the best restaurants in Northern Kentucky. I eat there at least once every two weeks. I grew up with one of the brothers who own the place. Maybe some day he'll name a sandwich after me after my money pays enough of the mortgages, haha. (Just kidding.) All three are great restaurants though. I've been to the Bistro twice since my original post. Cool little place. I do need to get back to Buona Vita.
April 27, 201214 yr I do need to get back to Buona Vita. If you go for something other than pizza, go for the Buona Vita Blush (bowtie pasta in palomino sauce), or the Furrio hogie (steak hoagie with pepperoni topped with spicy calabrese cheese sauce).
April 27, 201214 yr If you go for something other than pizza, go for the Buona Vita Blush (bowtie pasta in palomino sauce), or the Furrio hogie (steak hoagie with pepperoni topped with spicy calabrese cheese sauce). That hoagie sounds awesome.
April 27, 201214 yr I think that Bellevue's Pasquales it he best Pasquales, hands down I kept hearing about the "Bellevue Pasquales" for a few years from my brother who works in that area. I decided to give them a try one day when I was in the area and picked up a pie. Sorry to say it was the worst I ever had. Don't know if staff were having a bad day or store was short on staff but I simply could not eat that pizza. There was something nasty with the sauce. Haven't been back since.
April 27, 201214 yr My wife and I did the Pasquale's/Schneiders combo tonight. Hoagies and iceballs. Yummy. "iceballs", you grow up in Covington Clyde?
April 28, 201214 yr My wife and I did the Pasquale's/Schneiders combo tonight. Hoagies and iceballs. Yummy. I thought you didn't like their hoagies? Didn't you say it wasn't even meat?
April 28, 201214 yr "iceballs", you grow up in Covington Clyde? My parents did. Is that a Covington term?
April 28, 201214 yr I thought you didn't like their hoagies? Didn't you say it wasn't even meat? Hoagies were OK. I do question the origin of the item purported to be meat.
April 28, 201214 yr Hoagies were OK. I do question the origin of the item purported to be meat. The hoagies down the road at Buona Vita kill Pasquales if you ask me. Sausage is made in house by Matthew Frommeyer from slow cooked pork butt. I may be a homer of sorts...but they're dern good.
April 28, 201214 yr My parents did. Is that a Covington term? I'm pretty sure it is, sort of a "rivertown" term. I know when I get out of the area a lot of people use "snow cone". When I was growing up in the 60's I remember we used to get on our bikes and ride down to a bakery that would sell us iceballs out of a side window. We thought that was pretty "neato". Probably did not realize it at the time but it may have been one of the first "drive-thrus".
April 28, 201214 yr Grew up on Pasquales and Schneiders and my family used to own the Bistro. My moms chicken salad was the best in the área. Jeff, the new owner has Great Food but nothing will touch that grape, walnut chicken salad. We love Buena Vita as Well in Dayton. Great service and quality Food.
