April 12, 200917 yr Yeah, punish the rich for working hard and getting ahead... I love it when the rich get richer, because when they do they put more people to work.. ding ding ding...at least somebody gets it.:thumb: Unlike what we see plastered on TV and other media, most "wealthy" people are NOT liars, cheaters and lowlifes. They are hard-working, honest taxpayers who have gotten ahead by their own hand and yes as they accumulate wealth, many of these same taxpayers expand their businesses and expand their workforces to facilitate such expansions. It's amazing what the private sector can do when its left alone to prosper.
April 12, 200917 yr Author Poor people do not create many jobs.. So, when they spend money on food, utilities, television, etc, etc, that does not translate into jobs?????
April 12, 200917 yr Author Helps keep people in jobs but does not create many if any new jobs... So, the government/individual owner putting money into building low income housing because there is a market for it, does not create new jobs?
April 12, 200917 yr With Obama in the white house I guess there will be a lot more need for low- income housing..
April 12, 200917 yr I haven't read this thread, but the ironic things is that lower taxes on top brackets would probably (and has in the past) led to HIGHER tax revenues. The U.S. tax code is so complicated that it is easy for the very wealthy to find loopholes and tax shelters. If you want a system in the which the wealthy pay their share, the answer is NOT to add more words the tax code- the answer is the eliminate the IRS and create a flat tax with less loopholes
April 14, 200917 yr So what exactly is their share? I hear that term thrown out regularly but no one defines it.Their share is about what it is, a tax rate equal to there wealth distribution, the numbers are virtually the same, yet so many here are crying for the rich to pay a larger share that happens to be equal to there wealth.
April 14, 200917 yr Yeah, punish the rich for working hard and getting ahead... I love it when the rich get richer, because when they do they put more people to work..It you look at the last 25 years you will find that they aren't as keen about spreading the wealth down ladder as they used to be.
April 14, 200917 yr The class envy in this thread borders on the surreal. Some of you need to re-read your posts and then examine whether you mean what you say. I have said it before, and I say it again, "income" and "wealth" bear very little relationship to one another whatsoever. If you choose to ignore that, then there is very little to discuss.
April 14, 200917 yr It you look at the last 25 years you will find that they aren't as keen about spreading the wealth down ladder as they used to be. That's actually a worldwide phenomenon which is interesting, given all the different tax policies in different nations. I don't think you can attribute it to an attitude by the wealthy.
April 14, 200917 yr I'm to the point of discounting the opinions of the wealthy on what constitutes "good policy" or "equality". For someone that I've always known to be an open-minded poster, I literally am having trouble believing what I'm reading. I got glasses yesterday and I took them off to verify what my eyes are saying seeing. Discount opinions? Wow. Anyways, beyond the vague statements of class envy present in this thread, since when has a system of high taxation (on anyone, especially the wealthy) resulted in a better life for the poor (or anyone)? I've said it before- the day that I realized that I believed low taxation and small government was the best was when I realized that it was the most beneficial to the poor. Our poor are better than anyone else's in the world because of a system in the US that has not punished the successful. If taxing the rich significantly helped the poor, then I'd support it. But classic government mismanagement, and the mentality of punishing the rich, has not helped the poor before and won't now. Calls to tax the wealthy are simply using taxation as a weapon and a vote-buyer, because I don't see the examples of where it has helped the poor.
April 15, 200917 yr Saw this graph compiled from CBO data. Haven't had the chance to verify it, but wanted to post it to stir up some discussion until then. The blue represents percentage of pre-tax income.

A person who pays no income taxes should not get 1 cent more in refund then money that was withheld from them. As long as the ludicrous system is in place that rewards underachievement by penalizing achievement then I will be 100% against any income tax increase. The class envy here is simply amazing. It will never happen but I would love to see a flat tax rate. I would also like to see the withholding system eliminated. Make people actually write the check to the governement to pay their taxes. Withholding makes it to painless because people don't look at the money that is withheld as theirs. I recently had to explain to an otherwise intelligent young person just starting out that her income tax refund was not a gift from the government, rather the repayment of a loan (without interest) of money the government "borrowed" from her.
