Went Whale wathching today - Great Pic

What an incredible picture!

How do the guides know how close they are to the whales (and where the whales are)? You mentioned that you can only get within 100 yards, so I'm curious.

I might have missed something, but where are you doing this? Atlantic or Pacific Ocean. Several years back I went whale watching about 30 miles off the coast of Maine and it was incredible. I'm glad you're enjoying this!:thumb:

We're in Maui.

The economy is down here like every where. Typically it's 19.95 per person. Right now it's 19.95 per couple. Either way it's not very expensive.

Boats can only approach to 100 yards of the whales. Sometimes the whales will come up close to the boats on their own. We were right at 100 yards on this pic. Mrs C has real good camera equipment. So that helps a lot.

When you go let me know, I'll give you some tips on where to go and what to do. We've been here many times.

That's a real good shot. I'm guessing about a 300mm lens (assuming there's not a great deal of cropping and blowing it up)?

That is awesome and a great pic!

200 mm f2.8, a little crop.

Incredible. When I saw this title and saw it was from you, I knew there were great pictures. Can't wait to see more. Have a great trip. I am quite jealous.

Hawaii has always been my dream trip. Maybe someday.

Fantastic picture, as usual! :thumb:

What makes this photo even more impressive is seeing the ocean chop around the whale. It is so difficult to take pictures in a boat when there is wave action and keep the action sharp. Great job Mrs. CWF!

Mrs C hasn't had a chance to go through and load them all, plus there are a bunch of underwater film pics that we won't develop until we get back(much cheaper back home).

It was pretty rough. I pinned her against the rail and held her there so she could keep both hads on the camera. It was actually quite comical.

Me and the wife are heading to Maine and are planning to go whale watching

Just got back to the condo from the boat about an hour ago. What a great experience. We've been here several times, but never during whale season. It was spectacular.

I went once off Provincetown Cape Cod and it was fantastic. We saw 4 different species of whales and many dolphins.
