Yes they are lifting, also Brossart started a wrestling program and a lot of the football players wrestled and they lifted a lot there as well. They are looking better then they have in the past. Its nice for the kids to have a coaching staff in place to run weight programs unlike they have had in the past.

What does Brossart's schedule look like this year?

They still have a long way to go. I do feel that this will be there best year. Im not sure what kind of off season weight lifting they are doing.

This is a significant year for the Mustangs. They need to show some improvements so that the program will continue to move forward.

We are actually going back and starting from the beginning as we probably should have done back in '06.

 

We have been granted a charter by the NoKyJuniorHighFootballLeague (not sure that is the correct name of the league - but the same league that NCC plays in). We are enlisting student/athletes from our feeder grade schools to comprise this team. Coaches are in place to begin work with the team and sign ups have been conducted on a school to school basis. Before the question is asked I do believe that 8th grade players from St. Joe, Cold Spring who have played in the NCC program in the past will be grandfathered to the NCC program, should they choose.

 

We have developed a weight facility that would hold its own against most in NoKy, and have our own dedicated practice facility over on Gilbert Ridge road, which at present is a glorified hayfield, but will begin to take shape shortly.

 

Our players are a year older and committed to putting one in the win column this season. Our coaches, under the direction of Matt Reinhart, are hard working guys who have not stopped working to improve the program since the final game of the season. A great core of parent fund-raisers have been working year-round to fund the program.

 

I think our schedule has been completed and I know that some of the teams that we have played in the past have been replaced with some that we might me more competitive with this year.

 

There is a football element growing at Brossart within our student body, focusing on football and wrestling, but primarily focused on football. Some of the players who did not return last season will be returning this year.

 

While things haven't progressed as we would have liked, I think that the program is in good hands, and that steps are presently being taken in the right direction and that you will begin to see some steady improvement as the next few years unfold.

I would like to remind everybody that this program in itself is only 3 years old. There is no doubt that in it's first 2 years it had multiple hiccups and set backs. But the school and those that surround it feel that even with the team going 0-10 last year, major strides have been made. This off season was the first time that the school has ever had winter weights and also the first time that these kids have participated in spring football. This year will also be the first year that Bishop Brossart will have a middle school football team, establishing their first feeder program. One of the most important things that happened in the off season to the program was the addition of offensive line coach Mark Toebbler. Mark was a very important addition, a guru of football and the offensive line. He is also Coach Reinhart's mentor.

They will open up with Betsy Lane in week 0. Betsy Lane is no push over. They are also trying to establish a program under a new head coach who won 3 games last year. Week 1 Owen County. Week 2 Bracken County. Week 3 BYE and then right into district scheduling. There is no question the district that Brossart plays in is not only the hardest, but the largest in the state. With all this at hand we are still thinking positive and moving forward.

I feel the same way and they got one of the best wrestling coaches around!!

Who are some of the returning players? Who will replace Tony W? Is Spencer Brown returning as QB?

Spencer Brown should return at QB, their are about 4 RB's that should see carries all bringing something different to the table. Brossart returns Mustang award winner Anthony Steffen, Defensive POY Chris Bowman, and 4 starters who missed more than 30 games combined. 19 out of 22 starters will be back along with 8 to 12 new varsity faces.

Betsy Lane has had a varsity program as far I can remember since the 80's. Good luck to the Mustangs. I know Matt very well he is a very good guy. One of my best friends is a coach there as well.
