bluegrass09 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 The game will be hosted at Beechwood's new field. Bellevue is coming off a huge win over Scott and Beechwood is coming over a disappointing loss to Dixie. Thoughts?
Clyde Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Are these scrimmages played with the goal to beat the other team or are they played with the goal of working on things? I don't buy the "disappointing loss" or "huge win" thinking in regards to a scrimamge.

Of course getting pounded is not what any coach wants, even in a scrimmage.
bluegrass Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I think scrimages are played with a goal of seeing what a program and players need to work on. They provide insight into a season though and Bellevue certainly is performing well out of the gate! Beechwood is well coached and has always had good talent. Saturday's game should be a good matchup and while it doesn't go on the record books, I'm sure the players on each side want to have a "w"!

No huge wins or losses in a scrimmage, but it definitely lets you see things that concern you and things that make you feel encouraged going into the season. Unless there were just a tons of errors on Scott's part, I would think Bellevue is "mildly" pleased to come out of the gate hitting like that.
The Closer Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I agree. A scrimmage is to see where different players can play and for pitchers to work on pitches they might be struggling with.
bluegrass09 Posted March 20, 2009 Author Posted March 20, 2009 What time??? Ceremony for the field at 11. Varsity at 12 and then the JV and Freshman play afterwards.
Beechnut Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 So, how was it? haven't heard a peep from anyone.
lloydjuggernauts23 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Well, I'm not sure of the final score, but Hunter Jones did hit a homerun that appeared to clear the gymnasium in left field. This was from my perspective and I may be exaggerating, but it was a shot.
bluegrass09 Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Beechwood 5 and Bellevue 3. Jones goes 1-1 with HR and two walks. Chas Hyde also hit a HR, but not sure on how else he batted. Beechwood's pitching will either win or lose their season for them. Too many errors in the field for Beechwood.

Nonetheless, I would think BHS is pretty pleased with this outcome, given the results of their first scrimmage game. Sounds like BHS's pitching did a very nice job, especially when you consider that Bellevue just came off a 17-run game against Scott. Good pitching can take you pretty far, so BHS should be in the hunt this year.

BB#21 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 This was a good game... Hunter Jones did hit a bomb over the school also... And chas Hyde did hit a home run as well but that was on Ricky buckler a kid who pitched for his first time in his high school career... Good game for both teams though... Can't wait to see them play in regular season though...
