Great weather/Grilling out

The weather being cooperative and all, we decided to grill out today. Porterhouse steaks and something we've never tried before (and they turned out to be REALLY good) - grilled artichokes. Salad and baked potatoes rounded out the meal. chef.gif

I love temps in the 70s in the middle of March.

I seem to remember a few of us inviting ourselves over for a grill-out a little while back, and you never responded?

The artichokes sound really intriguing, how did you prepare them?

I usually grill out often during the winter, but haven't lately because a bird has built a nest in my grill. Yuck. Until I get it sanitized, I've been broiling alot, and the last interesting thing I had was goat chops last week.

We fired up the grill and burned all the excess from last season off the racks. Threw a few bugers on and they couldn't have tasted better.

On the first bolded, I remember that as well. Seems that the key phrase here is "inviting ourselves".:D However, I did throw a package of hot dogs on in anticipation of a rainy day (rather prescient, don't you think), and there were 4 steaks for 3 people, so there would have been options. Alas, the fourth steak was consumed by yours truly as a late snack.

On the second bolded, mcmama did the heavy lifting here. She did the trimming, then steamed them for 30 or 40 minutes. Cut them in half, removed the hearts, seasoned with salt and pepper and slathered them with olive oil. Prepared an herb/Green Goddess-based dipping sauce; we didn't have any chipotle sauce in the house. All I had to do was grill them for 4 or 5 minutes on each side.

I know a few folks that grill out all year long. I'm not one of them, so the first cookout of the season always tastes extra-sepcial to me.

Grilled some pork chops yesterday with all the summer fixins', corn on the cob, baked potatoes and salad. We also grill all year round, but this is the first time this year.
