LieutenantDan Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I saw the others start theirs, so I figured we shouldn't be left out.:thumb: Who do you see as the top teams and players in the 8th next year? Personally, I think it will be maybe the most interesting year in recent memory. To me, there is no clear cut #1 player or team. Much of the talent in the 8th is young, and it remains to be seen how consistent they can be. PLAYERS: (Next year's grade) Rianna Gayheart G, Owen Co., Soph One of the top scorers in the region. It will be interesting to see how she improves her game this offseason. Sydni Wainscott, G, Simon Kenton, Junior In one word: steady. Not a flashy point guard, but gets the job done. Can be deadly when left open. Kelli Dixon, F, Walton Verona, Junior Had a solid showing in the regional tournament. Could average a double/double this coming season. Tori Wilhoit, G, Williamstown, Junior A double/double nearly every night for Williamstown. Jordann McGuffin, G, South Oldham, Soph Could possibly be the best player in the region next year. A slashing guard with tons of athleticism. DARK HORSE Aaliyah Wells, F, Shelby, Fresh Although she had modest point and rebound production, it was obvious she is a force to be reckoned with in the future. Eriel McKee, F, Anderson, 8th Played her way into the rotation throughout the season. A key part of several games, she was selected for the 8th Region Tournament team. Sydney Brown, C, Anderson, Soph In and out of the starting line-up for Anderson all year long. Can be dominate at times, but consistency seems to be the key. TEAMS 1) South Oldham Very athletic and now experienced. 2) Owen Has potentially the region’s best player, coming off a 19 win season. 3) Simon Kenton Returning Brown, Ponzer, and Wainscott with the toughest defense in the 8th. 4) Oldham Coach Just does a great job, will be interesting to see what they look like in year two. 5) Shelby The Lady Rockets are looking to return to the regional tournament. Although, they lose their leading scorer (Lecompte), they return several guards and will see an improved Wells. OK. That's my take. What are your thoughts?

I think Oldham will be the team to beat next year- I was impressed with how much they have improved skill wise from beginning to end of year and I thought they played SK very well in the region tourney. I would add both Jasmine Whitfield and Mary Dye to the player lists- both had good freshman seasons - region games were not their best but I think they will learn much and have stellar seasons next year.
getalife Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Owen County returns all their starters and has a very talented incoming freshman class. If they will all work hard in the off season they could have a very good 09-10 season.
ColonelMike Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Good comments, Lt. Dan! I would add the young lady from Carroll County, Hanna Devine, to the lost of top returning players. Crazy8s added another that needs to be mentioned - Jasmine Whitfield, who started at PG for South Oldham this year as a freshman. Best returning Guard duos - South McGuffin & Whitfield SK Ponzer & Wainscott Best returning center - Anderson County Sydney Brown Best returning rebounders - Owen Co. Eko Kemper & W-V Kelly Dixon Most Important to her team's success - Oldham County's forward Emily Lape Player of the Year? - WIDE OPEN

Tori Wilhoit should be added as one of the best rebounders.
Mack The Knife Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Gallatin's Brooke Hill could make a run at top rebounder.
LieutenantDan Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 I actually forgot McGuffin, the comments were for Whitfield. I guess I shouldn't do this in the middle of the night. LOL
Mr. Athletics Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 SK is the top dog until someone in the 8th beats them. There may be some teams and some players not mentioned in the above threads out there flying under the radar as well.
magicfan217 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Early Rankings: 1. South Oldham 2. Oldham 3. Simon Kenton 4. Shelby County 5. Carroll County 6. Owen County 7. Anderson County 8. Walton-Verona 9. Henry County 10. Grant County ? Team to watch: Anderson County They are going to be EXTREMELY young but this team will have some serious talent. They return Brown, Mckee, Mcdowell, Yeaste and Cann from the rotation a year ago. If that 5 starts they will start two 8th graders, a sophmore, a Junior, and a Senior. The bench will be Freshman and Middle School kids. If AC can get steady guard play, Mckee and Brown could dominate the interior in a region where size will be at a premium. I think the first 8 teams could reasonably have a shot at cutting down the nets next season, making this summer a huge one for teams looking to create a gap.
nationofdomination Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Rumors have that Moss may be playing for Simon Kenton next year. Anyone else hear that rumor? If so, it makes Simon very tough to be beat.
nationofdomination Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Yes, I saw it on another thread. Of course I do not know how true it may be.
magicfan217 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I was the one who said it. I heard from "inside" sources that it was a possibility. I heard she was looking at SK and the same school that OJ Mayo attended after his middle school career at Rose Hill. Not saying that that is the only two options she is looking at, that's just what I heard a few weeks ago.
LieutenantDan Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Wow. That would certainly change the regional picture.
