I agree, I could have done without the 2:30 stall in the semis. High School really needs a shot clock.

Regarding the over and back violation called late on E'town, no one has mentioned that when the ball went back across mid court Asia Matheis came up with it on the floor.

True, but there wasn't much time left. I'm thinking there may have been less than 15 seconds. It would have been tough for Iroquois to get a good shot under those circumstances I think.

The best thing for Iroquois, pertaining to the call, was allow them to set up with 14 seconds to go.

 

To me E-Town wasted their time outs which could have allowed them to better plan an inbound scenario with 21 seconds remaining. The count had to be at 4 when they inbounded it and Chaos followed. A time out could have been invaluable.

Couldn't agree more, a shot clock would have added to an already very good game!!!

You can watch the controversial play on the KHSAA broadcast station for free. Just fast forward to the the final 30 seconds by moving the cursur button until the games winds down. You have to go from page to page a few times but it is really pretty quick to get to the final moments. Very interesting.

Wrong. Etown's girl fumbled the ball, then threw it back in trying to save it. Mathies has it when the whistle blows. Worst case, the bad over and back call. best case, inadvertent whistle and Iroquois ball. 17 turnovers, all kinds of missed opportunities for both teams, a couple of missed out of bounds calls that could have gone either way but favored Etown. Face it, in a close game, all plays are magnified. The three best officials in the tournament we on the game, they worked a good game, they (nor the players or coaches) were not perfect. In the end, only one can win.

Congrats to Iroquois and to E-town for an outstanding game. I was surprised to see 2 fouls called in the last 15 seconds. I wonder if the over and back call had anything to do with that. As it turned out, going into OT was probably the best thing. Great HS girls basketball game. 2 great coaching jobs by Al and Tim.

 

I have also heard that this was the first championship OT game in the history of the girls state tournament. Bowling Green and WKU do a really nice job hosting the tournament. It will be there for at least the next 2 years.

It was certainly a missed call. No chance that was a backcourt violation.

 

However, I would disagree with the above. In watching it several times, I heard the whistle and saw the center official come running in BEFORE the Iriquois girl threw it out of bounds.

 

Without the whistle it would have been Etown ball since Iriquois did ultimately throw it out of bounds.
