Congrats to Iroquois and to E-town for an outstanding game. I was surprised to see 2 fouls called in the last 15 seconds. I wonder if the over and back call had anything to do with that. As it turned out, going into OT was probably the best thing. Great HS girls basketball game. 2 great coaching jobs by Al and Tim.

 

I have also heard that this was the first championship OT game in the history of the girls state tournament. Bowling Green and WKU do a really nice job hosting the tournament. It will be there for at least the next 2 years.

I admit, I was pulling for E-town. If you were there it would have been hard not to. They FILLED the place with students and fans. They probably had 400 in the student section (and the school isn't a whole lot bigger then that). Truely a great showing by their students and fans alike. I dont understand the lack of support for Iroqouis. They had virtually no students there at all (a la Henry Clay of a year ago). Those girls are truely an inspirational story and deserve better from their student body and community.

According to the newspaper yesterday, 9-10 busloads of students went from Iroquois. And that's tremendous for that school. I'm so happy for Iroquois. The Matheis girls began playing varsity for Iroquois when they were in 6th grade, and at least one other teammate began playing varsity when she was in 7th grade. The schools team had folded, and these girls have not only renewed the team, but brought the team to a state championship.
