Look for LCA to employ a 3-5-3 scheme on defense. They are a System offense with alot of skill. If the offensive line losses can be filled, then look for them to continue to put up huge offensive numbers.

The 3-5-3 was designed to counter the spread offense. Some advantages are that it allows you to get more speed on the field and you do not have to have great defensive linemen to play it. In the defense you are constantly moving and blitzing and that causes many teams problems. I think LCA is going to it to get more athletes on the field and combat the spread, which they are seeing a lot of. I personally like a 4-3 or 5-3 defense with a lot of slanting and blitzing based on the personnel you have.

They let their DC go!!!!! That is the biggest thing that I saw from the year. I would go get Coach Carroll back and see what he can do!!

So you are going out on a limb and say that Carroll is a flat out better coach than the guy who replaced him (Ray Graham)after he chose to not return. Players had nothing to do with it I guess.

I dont say better coach but better fit. Players felt more comfortable by the end of 2007 with what was going on and there was as much talent in 2008 but a lot more experience but no where near the same results!!

Can't put it all on that, but I believe you do have an interesting point. I have heard Carroll was loved. They also got rid of another coach from the defensive side that helped Carroll as well.

 

Still, Derek Johnson and Raines were just as big a part of the defense in that 07 season as those 2 coaches. Chemistry is very important. Would not know if that were a reason or not in 08.

What happened to Mark Carroll? Is he coaching anywhere else now?

 

As to the championship game loss 2 years ago, no doubt special teams play was huge. And the biggest play of all was LCA going for it on 4th down instead of using special teams and kicking the short field goal that would have tied the game.

He decided to leave after he heard Graham was coming to the staff. He coaches at East Jessamine.
