What are everyones thoughts on Elliots easy ride to Rupp? Will it give them an advantage over Anderson who had a tough region championship game, whereas Eliiot won by 20+?

What are everyones thoughts on Elliots easy ride to Rupp? Will it give them an advantage over Anderson who had a tough region championship game, whereas Eliiot won by 20+?

 

I'm not sure it is an advantage, but I think that Anderson suprised Elliott at Montgomery County in January and caught them in a poor shooting night. Elliott was able to recover and win the game. For this one reason, I am going to say that winning the Regional tournament in easy fashion will not allow complacency in Thursday night's game. Elliott is experienced enough and has a high basketball IQ and realize that anyone can win on any given night, so bring your A game or go home.

Probably not, but that's the way it goes when you have a high octane offensive team.

 

I honestly feel like the high octane offense is the direct result of their high octane defense. I think they resemble the Rick Pitino coached Wildcats with their full court swarming defense. It makes their offensive game plan so easy to function. Jmo.

Just a question, but if their defense is so good why are they giving up 60 ppg? If they're constantly forcing a lot of turnovers like you say, teams shouldn't be scoring in the 60's like they are. From what I've seen this year Elliott attacks the ball but thats it. They rely on trapping and forcing bad passes which leads to a lot of easy points for the opposition. Very rarely do they just sit down and play tough m-2-m defense. A team that can handle the pressure gives them a lot of problems because of EC's inability to match up size wise.

Elliott is 30-2, like the Pitino teams this team lives by forcing turnovers. This team is good defensively in their own style. Elliott gets a shot off ever 10 seconds or so, because Holmes holds the ball for 30 seconds or more that makes them a better defensive team. The reason that Elliott gives up alot more points is because the other team has a lot more possesions. Why don't you check the amount of shots both teams shoot during a game and you will find your answer?

I understand where you guys are coming from but Holmes played a very similar defense last year (full court press/trap defense) but only gave up 46 ppg? Holmes didn't slow the ball down by any means last year either. Up until the sweet 16 they were averaging 66 ppg.

 

I'm just wondering why EC would be giving up so many points when other teams played a similar defense but gave up far less points?

 

(Let's not turn this in to a Holmes/EC debate...I only used them as an example from LAST YEAR to ask something about EC's defense THIS YEAR because of the two similar styles)

Obviously Elliott County's defense this year has been good enough to win 30 games.

Obviously EZ you haven't been paying to much attention to most of the threads regarding Holmes this year & especailly the last month or so. All eveyone is talking about is the low offensive production even the Holmes fans! Especially since a lot of it seems to be by the coaches design according to some Holmes & 9th Region fans. Go back & read some of the comments.

I have seen them play about a dozen games and I can tell you they play the way they have to to win. Coach Henley does not prefer to play a slow tempo at all but has prepared them to beat teams no matter the style of play. If you think for one minute that they can't score 70 or 80 points on any given night be sure to be there next week because they can get up and down with the best of them.

I just got into this thread so see what was being said about the match-up between Elliott and Anderson. This is after I see the Holmes pepes and Elliott pepes throwing rotten taters back and forth in the championship thread. So anyway I get back in here to see what is being said and low and behold there is someone in this thread preaching the Holmes thing here too.

Maybe its because I'm new and don't know the ropes but to quantify my thought I went into the Christian Co vs Holmes thread to see if someone from Elliott had their bible out in there but to my surprise I only saw Elliott referenced 2 times and neither of which was someone talking them up.

Again maybe its because I'm the newby.

I just know I will be in Rupp next week to see what happens.

I am just happy for the parents of these young men and hope they all get to enjoy through their son's eyes the sense of pride and honor to get to play in the House that Rupp Built!! Out of 120 counties only 16 programs made it. That is awesome to me!

I disagree with you about the poor shooting night, because I have seen many teams play this year and AC has the best defense out of the teams I have seen this year. I also think that AC will out rebound EC by close to 20 again. Russeell, Humphries, and Penny are monsters on the glass. If ACs guards come to play like they did the last 2 games of the regional tourney, I think they pull out the win. AC 62-EC 58
