What does a close game with North Laurel the night before do to Corbin's mental state if South is in their head? Were the 'Hounds looking ahead?

 

Maybe they were, easy for high school kids to do, they beat North close to 40 the last time. If St John stays out of foul trouble South is playing well and could win, if Johnson and Smith are hot from the outside Corbin should win.

I know one thing St. John's 32 rebounds last night may be a record for a 13th region game, Corbin better block him off the boards, if thats possible.

South is going to Rupp again. The Cards by 2 in a close one.

SL is putting it all together at the right time, Corbin on the other hand is not playing well. Very little ball movement and player movement. I think SL continues the rein and moves to rupp.

If Corbin does not get back to sharing the ball and making the extra pass(i.e. the first SL/Corbin game), a special season may end tonight. South Laurel is playing well and has won 4 straight regional championships, so although Corbin has beaten South 3 out of 4 times this year, the Cards are probably the favorite to win.

 

Corbin needs to have someone step up tonight, South will focus their defensive attention on Crawford in the paint and Johnson & Smith from the perimeter and take their chances with everyone else. If they try and force it at St John to try and get him into foul trouble(doubt that will happen), it could be a block party for South, as Leonidas stated, ball movement and player movement is vital if the Hounds are going to win.

You make an excellent point in your post -- Corbin needs force the ball in the paint and try to get St. John in foul trouble and tired. Shot selection is going to be so important--as it is in every game; however, Corbin does not need to force the ball to the hole--that extra pass you mentioned is key. I hope Corbin presses and tries to get South to play up-and-down the court. Middlesboro and North Laurel both took their time and played a half court game. South will try to slow it down tonight. Corbin is averaging 62 points the past three games -- this is NOT their style of basketball. I believe in the first game, St. John had around 27 points for SL against Corbin but the other players did not have that great of a game. I say, let St. John have his points and shut down the rest of South's players--SL cannot beat Corbin with St. John alone. There are so many factors to consider ... until SL is defeated, they're still 13th Region Champions. The atmosphere should be great tonight. ALso, I am hoping for a good called game by the officials and hope they let the players decide this game.

Middlesboro ran a lot, too. And, I believe South ran the floor more than it has in a long time last night.

No one in the 13th region can play a fast-pace, up-and-down the court game with Corbin. The season itself is a testament to that fact. If Corbin can run up and down the court, they'll outscore and beat South Laurel. If Corbin loses this game tonight, it will be because the pace is slowed down and poor shot selections. Corbin can win a low-scoring affair; however, if the score gets up in the upper-60s/70s, Corbin will be on top. They'll need more than their 62 point-average the past three games.

Should be a great game. Too bad I can only attend one.

I can see everyone's point of view from both sides. Corbin has a deeper team and South has the experience of winning the really "big" game.

 

I guess the only thing that's bothering me is the lack of respect for North Laurel. Those kids played a tough, hard-nosed game. If I remember correctly I think SL had a tough time with them this year on at least one occasion. So I don' think that Corbin played extraordinarily bad, I just think that Coach Conway's team left it all on

the floor. No one would have blown them out last night.

 

I think that you can throw SL's relatively easy game and Corbin's battle last night out the window. This is one is for a trip to Rupp!!! The adrenaline will be flowing and the teams will be at their best. I just hope and pray that the suspect officiating that has reigned over this tournament won't come into play in a game with such high stakes.

I agree. I believe that Seidel, Couch and Eversole are seniors and really wanted to go out in a special way. The Jags played their hearts out, but Corbin just had too many weapons. The Jags had been up and down this year, losing several heartbreakers. They played Corbin much better earlier in the season, but the 40 point loss was right after Corbin lost to South and the Hounds had something to prove, ... and they proved it. This North team had some big wins this season, but just couldn't find that consistency. They really played well in the postseason, just ran into a very talented Corbin team.

 

Tonight's championship game could be a classic.
