29th - Oldham County and South Oldham

30th - Anderson County and Spencer County

31st - Carroll County and Owen County

32nd - Simon Kenton and Walton-Verona

 

Simon Kenton comes in as the hands-down favorite to win their second straight regional title.

 

Not much separates the remaining seven teams.

 

Anderson County has faltered of late, but still has to be considered the "most likely" to knock off SK.

 

South Oldham, Oldham County, and Spencer County make up the next group.

 

Walton-Verona, Carroll County, and Owen County are probably a touch below that group, but W-V has finished the year strong, Carroll won the NCKC, and Owen County looked solid in dispatching the 8th Region All-A champ, Gallatin County, in the first round of the district.

It will be interesting to see if Anderson can build some momentum going into regionals.

Anderson will really have to step up if they have a shot at winning the region. They have not played particularly well of late, and seem to really have problems if Fultz and Davenport aren't scoring. But, anything can happen.

Interesting, however..Owen beat both Spencer and Oldham in the regular season. I think after SK and Anderson it is a toss up.. alll of those teams are very close in ability.

 

I like the SO gym for the regional it is a nice place to play.

Tourney is at South. For the regular season, they were 9-3 at home and 6-8 on the road. They made a nice run in last year's regional and I certainly would think that they will be in the thick of things again.

depends on the draw. I think everybody is hoping Simon isn't on their side of the bracket. AC and South are the only schools that could knock Simon off IMO, and they are both longshots at this point (although if AC puts it together, they have enough talent to play with them).

I think Anderson's the wild card. I'm not sure anybody else has seasoned enough players to put SK on the mat - but AC does.

 

However, AC hasn't shown an ability to consistently beat the Oldhams (won in the final minutes after trailing throughout) and South Oldhams (lost), etc. of the world. So...if AC should happen to meet - and beat - SK before the final, then the tournament is up for grabs, IMO.

 

Not only are the other teams capable of beating AC, but AC will have the unenviable task of coming back down off the mountain, should they upset SK.

 

All wild speculation...let's see what the draw gives us...

Anderson played well against a Spencer Co. team that has come on off late. It looks like the Lady Bearcats might be getting momentum heading into the region. The draw is HUGE.
