February 23, 200917 yr He was going to ask him if he thought he should give up any of his salary.:laugh::clap: I love this reaction and hate reporters like this. At this time talk basketball maybe when no one is around talk financial business.
February 24, 200917 yr I like Calhoun a lot. You ask a question like that, you better prepare for the response in which he got.
February 24, 200917 yr Did anyone see this? Thought it was funny. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3924716 That was beyond funny!:notworthy:
February 25, 200917 yr Calhoun was a tad bit off on his $12m figure. The basketball team actually brought in $1.3M according to DOE numbers.
February 25, 200917 yr Calhoun was a tad bit off on his $12m figure. The basketball team actually brought in $1.3M according to DOE numbers. Last year, UConn reported $7.3 million in revenue directly attributable to the men's basketball team from such sources as tickets, royalties, sponsorships, sports camps and alumni contributions. But a large portion of the school's athletic income is not directly attributed to a particular team. Corporate sponsorship contracts, for example, are generally signed not with a team, but with the athletic department. The school values those deals at about $20 million and figures that the men's basketball team can fairly assert $5 million of the total. Add that to the $7.3 million in direct income, and you've got Calhoun's $12 million figure. I'd say they're being conservative with the $5 million too. LINK

There is no way that UConn basketball only brought in $1.3 million. If they had 12,000 seats for home games X 18 home games X only $15 per ticket, that would equal $2.7 million by itself. That doesn't count away games, TV money, merchandising, etc.
