I wouldnt doubt his recruiting skills, nobody thought he would get Hardin and Reed out. I wouldnt be suprised at all to see some new faces.

Greenup County is on the right track with attitude, discipline and support from all aspects the program needs to succeed, now all Coach Copley needs to do is win some ball games and he will be the first to tell you that fact and I look for that to happen sooner rather than later, just a hunch from an ol skool football player....

There is no rule prohibiting COMMUNICATING with your players or potential players during the Dead Period. All the rules prohibiting coach/player contact relate to:

1) coaching the player (whether as part of their HS team, any kind of "AAU" team, or individually at a camp),

2) participating TOGETHER in a "mandatory" fund-raiser meant to help the HS program,

3) providing equipment or funds for a player to attend a camp during the dead period.

 

According the the way the rule and the corresponding case-studies read (http://www.khsaa.org/handbook/bylaws/bylaw26.pdf), the Dead Period is not about prohibiting CONTACT between coaches and their players; it is to limit the coaches from going overboard in COACHING their players in an athletic pursuit.

 

I've got kids that I need to call and check on to make sure things are going okay at home, I've got some of them in a summer school class I teach, and I work with some on ACT prep. None of those things are illegal unless while I'm communicating with them, I start somehow 'coaching' them.
