If Elliott comes up short at Rupp it will be a bad ending to a good movie! Over the last year I have become a Lions Fan. If GRC can't cut the nets I hope Elliott does!

I might add that Elliott County's loss to Mason County last year was the closest game that the eventual State Champion had in the tournament.

I have to admit that there is a part of me who wants to see Elliott County win the state title this year. These kids have been solid since they were younger players, ... now with more experience, it would be nice to see all their hard work rewarded. They are a special group of players.

For a school that has less than 600 students in grades 7-12 (as compared to a Scott County with almost 3000 students or a Holmes with 1200+) this is a major accomplishment for them. I myself attended Elliott County and am proud to be from Sandy Hook even though I don't live there anymore.

 

The total number of STUDENTS in Scott County and Holmes COMBINED is almost as much as the number of people in ALL OF ELLIOTT COUNTY. So go ahead and talk up your Scott County's and your Holmes' but Elliott County by and large is IMO the best team in the state because these boys know everyone in the school and aren't afraid to speak to people in the local community. Name one person on either Scott County's team or Holmes' team that can say they could freely speak with ANYONE in the school and still know their name at the end of the conversation.

 

These boys do not have egos they have been supported by the COMMUNITY and they play for the community and they play with heart and passion each and every time their sneakers touch the floor. IMO Elliott County High School is the best school in the state. Period.

 

This is the type of thread that will cause people (like myself) who want to see Elliott County do well to rethink that support. Trashing the bigger schools the way you did in your post is not necessary. The best school in the state should be based on academic results IMHO, not if the school is small enough to know everyone.

You really need me to break that down for you? OK. Here goes. It means that Elliott County wasn't just a team that was lucky to just make it to the Sweet 16. It was a team that was very capable of winning a State Championship, as their first round game against Mason County showed. Elliott County just had the misfortune of drawing Mason County in the 1st round. Sometimes the two best teams don't play for the championship. If you need any more help with my post please let me know.

I can't imagine what it will be like not having these boys around anymore. The thing that makes it better is that they are from one spot and haven't been shipped in to make a good team. It has been a pleasure to watch these boys mature into fine young men and take something throughout their life that no one can take away. Years from now they will think about all the good when they reflect back on what they have done. Thank you so much for all tht you have done for this small community.

I know many people that lived on the Elliott County side that attended West Carter and vice versa. So I could have went to either school, if I chose to and played ball. There is definitely a grey area in the general route 504 area in Elliott/Carter area.

Why does something like this need to be brought into this particular thread? I think this is a tremendous story and its ashame that everyone can't celebrate these kids.

I'm not trying to take away from the story...but you can't deny that the title of the story is a bit misleading because they aren't as "home grown" as it states. Just because someone brings something up that doesn't agree with the EC fans, doesn't mean someone is bashing them and all arms should be thrown up.

 

I think everyone has made it pretty obvious that we love what this team is doing and they are certainly making a huge impact for all of their community and all of the "little guys" across the state.

I believe you can attend either school. I know people that did, anyways that lived in opposite counties. But I attended all of my years at Elliott county, but I have a Olive Hill mailing address.

 

The Knipps could have played at either, if the rules are still the same as they were. I would consider them Elliott County boys, because they have been here since elementary school. My daughter is in second grade and if she plays bball at her new school, then I would consider her homegrown even though she attended another school in 1st grade, because she will have spent the majority of her school years at this new school. I certainly did not move her due to atheltics. So I guess it depends on your definition of homegrown. Personally I feel that these boys are homegrown, due to spending the majority of the years in Elliott.

Exactly what year did they come to EC though? Wasn't it middle school for Chris and late elementary school for Timmy?

 

I'm just wondering because this is a similar situation as the Setty's of Mason Co and many people don't consider them "homegrown" because of it.

I believe they lived in Elliott Co. the whole time, but attended WC Middle school for a time period, because it was just about as close as Elliott Co. High School was.

So when they say home grown. THATS WHAT THEY MEAN!

 

I used to live at the foot of Porter's hill on the Carter/Elliott Line, but went to Elliott. Isonville was just as close as me going all the way to Willard. I eventually moved back to Hitchins and then back to Peter's Hill right in Isonville. So, unless you understand the way the county line's and backroads run around here, you'll probaly never get a grasp of things.
