This is a great story and a fitting tribute to a unique Elliott County team. I would imagine the entire 16th region as well as many other small schools across the state will be pulling for them at the state tournament this year. I know I will be.

 

At the same time, I trust that these graduating seniors will not let the storybook coronation that is happening get inside their heads and lead to a letdown in the 16th region tournament. Even though they are obviously far better than any of their 16th region competition, they need to keep their focus.

What a well written story. As I wipe the tears from my eyes after reading this all I have to say is Thank You. To Ethan, Evan, Ferg, Chris, Timmy, Jared, John Morgan, Jacob, Cody, and all the boys and staff....I truly thank you for the heart and soul you give of yourself while playing the game you love so much. We love our Lions and wish them luck the remainder of the season and whereever their careers may take them. I hope someday coach Faulkner (either one or both) will return and teach our little boys how to play tough and with heart.

 

Great article and well said BLT.:ylsuper: I can see Coach Faulkner returning some day and leading another group of young lions to the big dance in Lexington. Ethan and/or Evan either one. Heck, Ethan is like a coach on the floor now. His leadership and positive can do attitude is always on display, he is a great role model, and his basketball IQ is off the charts. No point guard in the state is going to out think this guy on the court. Plus they both play with the heart and soul of a roaring lion coming at you. These seniors are the most competetive and determined bunch I have seen. Throw a tall talented and gifted sophomore in there and you have just the right mix.

For a school that has less than 600 students in grades 7-12 (as compared to a Scott County with almost 3000 students or a Holmes with 1200+) this is a major accomplishment for them. I myself attended Elliott County and am proud to be from Sandy Hook even though I don't live there anymore.

 

The total number of STUDENTS in Scott County and Holmes COMBINED is almost as much as the number of people in ALL OF ELLIOTT COUNTY. So go ahead and talk up your Scott County's and your Holmes' but Elliott County by and large is IMO the best team in the state because these boys know everyone in the school and aren't afraid to speak to people in the local community. Name one person on either Scott County's team or Holmes' team that can say they could freely speak with ANYONE in the school and still know their name at the end of the conversation.

 

These boys do not have egos they have been supported by the COMMUNITY and they play for the community and they play with heart and passion each and every time their sneakers touch the floor. IMO Elliott County High School is the best school in the state. Period.

I might add that Elliott County's loss to Mason County last year was the closest game that the eventual State Champion had in the tournament.

I appreciate your passion, and reading the rest of the posts in this thread gave me the chills. There is nothing more special than getting to play in Rupp Arena in front of 18,000+ screaming fans and missing school for it.

Anyways, this team is really special and I have seen them play a couple of times and can honestly say I would like nothing more than for them to win syaye this year. Congrats to all the fans, coaches, and players for the ride you all have had these last few years. I am a believer!

It has been a honor to watch these young men play the last 4 years. We are all proud of you, good luck to everyone next year in college. I think there a few more colleges that have gained some new fans. Good luck the rest of the year. Hopefully we will make it to Rupp and end this historic year with a bang.

I can't imagine what it will be like not having these boys around anymore. The thing that makes it better is that they are from one spot and haven't been shipped in to make a good team. It has been a pleasure to watch these boys mature into fine young men and take something throughout their life that no one can take away. Years from now they will think about all the good when they reflect back on what they have done. Thank you so much for all tht you have done for this small community.

Like I have said before they will never be a group like this come through Elliott Co. again.
