When will Eastern Kentucky get some post high school education money for schools beyond a few community colleges. You could argue we don't get are fair share there either.

I honestly don't know how this got to the point that "poor Jefferson County" even got to be an issue. The point many of the people were making was it it's absurd for counties that prohibit the sale of alcohol to profit from something that they find "evil." I live in Louisville and love it here... and this town loves booze. I don't want to get in on any part of the coal severance discussion because I don't agree with the notion that these issues are similar.

But people in all those counties purchase alcohol just the same. I could point you towards hundreds of people I know that drive to wet counties to purchase alcohol they are just in the minority where they live.

And those holier then thou counties that stay dry will reap the benefits of it. IMVHO all counties should now be required to "go wet" or not get one cent of the increased tax revenue.

I have mixed emotions about this. Money needs to come from somewhere. The thing is people that buy these products will buy them no matter what the cost.

A complete lack of financial acumen backing this. Do you really think that Jim Beam needs its bottling facility in Frankfort? Do you really think Makers Mark needs venue in Loretto? Beshear stabbed the bourbon folks in the back. We'll see what the bourbon folks do about it.

Indiana Congressman Baron Hill apparently sent the president of Brown-Forman Distilleries a letter saying that he was "perplexed" by his company's recent struggle in Kentucky and that "Indiana values and promotes our signature home state businesses." Now, do I think Brown-Forman will move its operations elsewhere (especially to Indiana)... no. But in these days of lost jobs and struggling economy, is it wise to tempt fate? Again... no.

I love Bourbon and will be happy to pay the extra tax. That is a choice I have.

My guess is that you are very pro 2nd Amendment despite of all the terrible "gun" deaths in this country......All counties should be wet and the same holier than thou people pushing this type of tax are the same ones blocking all the tax revenue and job creation that legalizing casino gambling would bring to our fine state. Sorry I know I got a little off topic.

 

I don't believe in gambling, but I love the concept of another "tax" I wouldn't have to pay. I just hate to see kids be victimized, because the adults in their life aren't responsible enough to manage their money.

 

I have no problem with taxing guns and ammo. They are already heavily taxed, IMO. I can choose to pay or not to pay for guns and ammo.

 

Next thing I want to see taxed is people using the term, "holier than thou". Exactly what does that mean? If a person isn't a liberal and has conservative values, than they are holier than thou? Alcohol and tobacco are far more deadly than many illicit drugs. If taxing them more heavily will help curb use (especially with our young people) and raise revenue for our broke state budget- what's the down side of that?

Cars are very heavily taxed in this state. What do you get to do for your birthday every year???? Sell a car, ten times in one year, and taxes are paid every time. Let's cut car taxes and put a new tax on plastic surgery procedures, viagara, and jewelry!
