February 15, 200917 yr I'm not politically polarized, but I do think that $13 a week is like peeing in the ocean and it isn't going to help stimulate the economy. To you maybe $13.00 isn't really big, and if you and only you peed in the Ocean it wouldn't make a difference, but we are talking millions and millions of people getting $13.00 and just think if millions and millions of people peeing in the Ocean. Now understand I really don't like this bill at all, as I worry about the young adults like cch5432, my daughter and her boyfriend paying for this for years and years and years....
February 15, 200917 yr I'm not politically polarized, but I do think that $13 a week is like peeing in the ocean and it isn't going to help stimulate the economy. I guess it's a perspective issue. $13 a week doesn't seem a lot to some people. But for others, it's another meal.
February 15, 200917 yr I guess it's a perspective issue. $13 a week doesn't seem a lot to some people. But for others, it's another meal. As a kid, I remember my mother having $11.00 to buy a week's worth of groceries. She even put aside 50 cents for me to buy a book, as she bought me a new one (well, from the used book store) every week. Granted, that was probably 25 years ago, but the point is that those that do not have the education or training to make big bucks, this is significant, particularly over a year. I am not turning down the $676. Again, if anyone doesn't like it, write the federal government a check for that amount and send it to them at the end of the year and ask that it be applied to the national debt.
February 15, 200917 yr Hey, I'll take anything they offer and put it to use. That covers my bus pass.
February 15, 200917 yr My point is not that it won't be good for people receiving it. On a personal level, I know it will help some, not a lot, but a little. But looking at the big picture, I'm having a hard time seeing how this will stimulate the economy on any scale needed to make a difference.

But, I didn't think the $600 stimulus checks would either.
February 15, 200917 yr On it's own, I don't think it will. But, I didn't think the $600 stimulus checks would either. Nope, and they didn't. :thumb:
February 15, 200917 yr Nope, and they didn't. :thumb: Exactly. But the stimulus checks were the "solution". The $13/week is "part" of the solution.
February 15, 200917 yr I'm non partisan on the issue, rm. Neither one was the answer and I don't care which party introduced it. Whether its 600 bucks all at once or split up over a year, its not material enough to make a difference. Of course that is just MVHO.

I have a thread that invites people to outline their solutions. If you're interested, I'd love to hear your perspective. :thumb:
February 15, 200917 yr Any RAISE is a GOOD raise!!! And with a 2 income household that means $26 a week. That will buy my gas for 2-3 days a week so I can get back and forth to work!!!!!
February 15, 200917 yr I'm not politically polarized, but I do think that $13 a week is like peeing in the ocean and it isn't going to help stimulate the economy. That's a fine reason- like I said, to me, the only acceptable grounds for being against this is because it is a waste of money and won't help the economy. But various people in this thread automatically disregard it as bad because President Obama supports it.
February 15, 200917 yr Before anyone gets too excited about their raise, just know your going to lose that plus more to the new taxes you'll be paying.
