Not playing Boyle Co this year?

I've been told by someone very close to the program that Zack Fowler has chosen football, along with Rob Lewis. I do think it is a sad situation when kids, and they are kids, have to choose which sport to play. Didn't the Heisman Trophy Winner this year say, "let them play all sports, don't make your kid choose."

Why any player would choose basketball over football at Southwestern is beyond stupid. Football hasn't been great, but it is light years ahead of basketball at SW.

They shouldn't have to choose. Super. needs to do his Job and get this worked out now. Any Coach that tells a kid he don't need to play another sport should be showed the Road. They don't care about the Kids if the tell them this and make the choose between the two.

I hate to hear that. All of those kids are very good at more than one sport and playing them both (or all 3 depending on the kid) will only benefit them down the road. Sure you might not end up quite as polished in one sport if you play more than one but lots of times you end up a better athlete because of it and really reap the benefits when you move on to college. I've seen several talented basketball players in the area the last few years that would have gotten a huge boost from the toughness they would have gained playing football.

You are so right. The Wt. program the toughness there is nothing that can replace this. Hope McCreary Centrals Basketball Coach is reading this. Southwestern must get this worked out now or both programs will suffer.

Who drew the proverbial line in the sand here? Was it the Basketball coach, Football coach or someone else? Whoever asked these kids to choose on or the other needs there head examined.

Like Bob Boone said on the radio the other day, there has been exactly one kid (Josh Anderson) from this area make a living playing a sport.

This isn't life and death, let them play all sports. The kids that are the best athletes can go from sport to sport in a relatively short time.

The basketball coach was the one who drew the line... Tony Massey and Darren Burton are a couple other area kids who made some decent money in pro sports...

In Kentucky it usually is the Basketball Coach who draws the Line. They think the only Sport is Basketball.

Unforunately, this is happening in a lot of programs. When coaches make kids choose a sport, then it is no longer about the kids. At that point it is about the coach and his ego. Kids should be encouraged to play other sports and compete. I have seen football make basketball players tougher, basketball help a football players feet and quickness, and I've seen wrestling turn pudgy timid kids into aggressive monsters. Let the kids play what they want to and get the best athletes in the school on the field, mat, and court. Then you will see your athletic program imporve across the board. Good luck to Southwestern and I encourage the kids and parents to take a stand and play what sports they want to play.

What hurts even worse, in this situation, is SW was going to have a very good nucleus in football & basketball. The "split" will hurt both.

Who will run reps at QB for SW now? I know Epperson & Marlow were both QBs. does SW have a spring game?

^ Spring game at 6:30 Friday...

When I was in high school, I was priveleged to play 4 sports. I am not bragging, just our policy was to encourage kids to play sports.

I remember my junior year I was going to quit basketball. My Step-father felt I needed to lift wts. for football. Every coach in football, basketball, baseball, and track came to the basketball office when I went in to quit. Each took a turn on chewing my tail. Needless to say I didn't quit and we went to the final four. When coaches work together, everyone wins. I owe each coach for thinking what was best for me, the team, and our school.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I guess some things have changed in the past couple years. When I was there it was the privilege to be a warrior football player, and you were a basketball player to stay in shape. I wonder if these kids realize there are 22 positions on a football team to compete for a scholarship, instead of 10 on a basketball court. Whatever the situation may be, I am 100% sure that Coach A, Coach Girdler and Coach Boon will have these kids more than ready to play in the fall.
