Justin Epperson and Daulton Marlow will probably be taking the most snaps for the Warriors this season...

I heard that both Justin and Cody Epperson as well as Marlow have decided to play basketball only. Is this the case?

AJG,

Lots of stuff going on right now at SWHS. Unfortunately several kids have been forced to choose between BB and FB. It is my understanding that the Eppersons twins and Marlow have chosen BB. The Lewis boy has chosen football. Not sure what Fowler's status is. This situation has really caused a lot of bad feelings between programs. Hopefully, the AD and Principle step in and try to mediate a resolution. Sad situation. The kids are the ones who are hurting the most in this ordeal.

I hate to hear that. All of those kids are very good at more than one sport and playing them both (or all 3 depending on the kid) will only benefit them down the road. Sure you might not end up quite as polished in one sport if you play more than one but lots of times you end up a better athlete because of it and really reap the benefits when you move on to college. I've seen several talented basketball players in the area the last few years that would have gotten a huge boost from the toughness they would have gained playing football.

Why any player would choose basketball over football at Southwestern is beyond stupid. Football hasn't been great, but it is light years ahead of basketball at SW.

That's a little bit of a harsh statement to direct at a bunch of kids isn't it? These are kids that we're talking about, maybe they felt forced to pick and went with the sport that they liked best. I think calling them stupid is uncalled for. It sounds like it is a group of adults that are at fault here--whether its coaches or parents or whatever.

The kids aren't stupid. The influence on the decision making in choosing one sport over another is what is stupid. Kids should do what they want to do in high school. If they want to play 2 sports they should play them.

I've been told by someone very close to the program that Zack Fowler has chosen football, along with Rob Lewis. I do think it is a sad situation when kids, and they are kids, have to choose which sport to play. Didn't the Heisman Trophy Winner this year say, "let them play all sports, don't make your kid choose."
