I guess going 100 miles south and playing a top 15 team in the state and losing by three (on the road) means nothing?

 

Lexington Catholic would beat Corbin by 10+ at home, and maybe even more.

I know Boone County was on the radar this week. However, other than a win over Adair County, there really hasn't been a win by Boone to "hang their hat on" outside of the Holmes win Tuesday.

 

When you get out of the 7th and the 11th region it's like that for alot of teams. Look at the 9th region, who most people consider the 3rd best region, you got Cov-Holmes and Boone County, two very comparable teams. Holmes best win #1 Scott Co, Boone's best win #1 Holmes. After that there isn't much to hang you hat on except for Ballard, Holmes won by a little, Boone Co lost by a little. For Holmes; Bryan Station offsets with a win and a loss.

If Holmes is ranked in the top 2 or 3, how can Boone Co not be a top 10, especally top 20. Only Ballard separates them by a very little and I'm not convinced that Ballard is a top 5 type anyway, Adair Co beat them last year and Boone Co has taken care of AC easily the last two years.

On Boone, you have to look at their entire body of work. Remember, they were beat by #19 Trinity and unranked Highlands beat them by 14 points last month. My point is, you don't just get to count the wins when doing rankings, you count the losses too.

I'm not sold on the fact that Lex Cath is better than Corbin, although I can understand them being ranked over the Redhounds due to more quality wins over other very good teams.

Yep, they would probably beat McCreary Central by 30 or even more at home and probably by 30 at McCreary.:laugh:

Here are some that I question -

 

Seneca has played a tough schedule and has some nice wins but #12??? Maybe in the bottom 5 of the top 20 but no higher.

 

Boone County not in the top 20 really casts doubt on the poll, and I know the poll was out prior to the Holmes game but Boone County has played a tough schedule and has been the #2 team in N. Ky. all season. They should have been in the top 20.

 

Mason County is too high. They belong more in the 15 range. Very similar to Boone County and Mason is #9 while Boone isn't even in the top 20.

 

There are others that I question but it would be quibilling and too much of a subjective argument on both sides. I do think the top 5-6 teams is right on target.

Last year's results dont factor into this year's rankings.

Like a lot of teams, Mason County has some ebb and flow to their season. Three weeks ago, they looked like a top-10 team when after they had Scott County on the ropes in Georgetown, beat Lexington Catholic and posted double-digit wins over Madison Central and a Henry Clay team that had just beaten Dunbar and Bryan Station.

 

Now, the losses to Clark County and Elliott County (both on the road, mind you) drag them a down a little in everyone's eyes.

OK, back to the teams that are in the top 20. I think I've stated this before, but Corbin should be ranked in ahead of Lexington Catholic. The Redhounds led by as much as 14 to 15 points in the fourth quarter before the Knights rallied.

 

As for the top five, I like them.

Understandable. But that game was at Corbin and it was nearly six weeks ago. Since then, Lexington Catholic and Corbin have had two common opponents.

 

Corbin beat Lexington Christian by 12 and lost at South Laurel.

 

Lexington Catholic beat Lexington Christian by 24, then hammered South Laurel by 22 on their home court.

 

Given their entire body of work, you can justify Lexington Catholic over Corbin.

I would switch around the top ten some, but the teams there deserve it.

 

Corbin hasn't played anyone outside of LexCath and their 13th region foes. I may actually drop them further than they are.

 

But back to the teams that are in the Top 10.. :lol:
