Understandable. But that game was at Corbin and it was nearly six weeks ago. Since then, Lexington Catholic and Corbin have had two common opponents.

 

Corbin beat Lexington Christian by 12 and lost at South Laurel.

 

Lexington Catholic beat Lexington Christian by 24, then hammered South Laurel by 22 on their home court.

 

Given their entire body of work, you can justify Lexington Catholic over Corbin.

I think it's fair to say the two teams are pretty close to each other. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they will stage a rematch in Rupp.

 

Given some luck and an upset or two, we could have teams tangling with each other in the quarterfinals.

I would like to see Corbin make it back to Rupp. Josh Crawford impressed me as an eighth grader, although I wish he had been a little less effective against Lone Oak.

 

I haven't see him play since that state tournament.

I agree, very true. I was on a roll there comparing the wins and forgot about Boone Co having two more losses than Cov-Holmes.

Wins vs. 2 teams in the top 15 in different polls: Holmes and Perry County. Win against Scott who has been in the top 25. The OT loss to Trinity was to a top 20 team. Highlands has also been in and out of the top 20.

Fairly weak region and not so strong schedule ... heck, a lot of teams fit that category and aren't in the top 20.

 

And I don't know that have they really been #1 and #2 in the region all season, especially with losses to Hazard and Knott Central in the last four weeks.

I agree. No way Perry Central is a top 20 team. Their ranking comes from playing a weak schedule and being in a weak region. They probably wouldn't even be in the top 5 of the 9th.

Eastern has a real strong case for number 1, I mean, they only have one loss this year.

Just because you beat someone in a head to head matchup doesn't mean you get to be ranked ahead of them, maybe Corbin is better than Lex Cath. but they don't play the same schedule so I would quit complaining about that. Trust me I'm not defending Lex Cath. in any way here either.

 

As far as the Boone Co. thing goes that was a great win and they may be a good team, but you don't just come flying into the top 10 because of one win. I'm sure Holmes is getting everyone's best shot every game this year so it was very possible that one of the decent 9th region teams would knock them off.

I agree, a team's entire resume should be looked at when doing these rankings, those teams that play in the tougher regions and are at the top should get the nod over a team from a weaker region that is undefeated in regional play.

 

Those teams that play in tougher regions, play the top level teams and perform the best against the upper tier teams are the ones that deserve the top ten rankings. I have no problem with the top ten really. Elliott will have to be in major consideration for a top 5 slot if they beat Ballard Saturday. If they win decisively against the Bruins, I have no problem with them being as high as 3. If Ballard wins going away over EC, I also have no problem with them leap-frogging Eastern.

 

The top 2 is pretty much set in stone barring a slip up by either team. IMO.

To date, Scott Co and Holmes have been the two most impressive teams in the state. Eastern only has one loss but honestly, outside of Ballard and J'town they really haven't played the same level of competition as Holmes and Scott Co.
