I don't really agree with the Lit Ratings but they seem to be within two or three points of being accurate.

 

A. I don't necessarily agree with a lot of their ratings either, but the math exercises are fun.

 

B. I would guess that the ratings being this "spot-on" for a team so many times is a statistical rarity.

I think computer ratings have some merit in measuring the strength of teams. What the computer can't do is measure how one team matches up to another, and as the old saying goes it is a "game of match ups". The other thing it can't measure is the decisions a coach makes during game, especially when the game is well in hand one way or the other, and he starts substituting.

 

Although I do like your math exercises McPapa.

"Most competitive/balanced regions" (smallest gap between Lit-rated #1 and Lit-rated #8 in each region):

 

Region 12 (8.1 points between Lincoln County and Southwestern)

Region 5 (11.8 points between North Hardin and Green County)

Region 4 (13.4 points between Warren Central and Russellville)

Region 7 (13.8 points between Eastern and Manual)

Region 6 (15.2 points between PRP and Southern)

 

I'm actually quite shocked by this one. Of course, I think this demonstrates the parity of the region more in the 2-8 spots (separated by 6.8 points, 1-2 are separated by 6.4 alone) than anything. I think the only team capable of beating Warren Central has already done so (Bowling Green).

Russellville couldn't even get out of their region in the All A. Clinton County won it. I agree, Bowling Green has the only shot at knocking Warren Central off.

That just show you that he bases the ratings on actual point differentials and why teams who can run up the score will benefit in the ratings.
