The Selection Process

The initial list of potential names is gathered by Sports America, Inc., which has worked with McDonald's in connection with the McDonald's All American Game since it was founded in 1978. Names are submitted by

members of the Selection Committee as well as state representatives who religiously follow the prep scene in their areas. In addition, Sports America subscribes to every major basketball publication and is read very

carefully by its staff to ensure that some deserving players are not overlooked. Many rising seniors make this list based on an excellent junior year or for having an outstanding summer participating in summer camps

and AAU tournaments. There is no set number of how many players can be nominated throughout the country. Traditionally, the final total is between 1,500 to 1,800 for boys and 900 to 1,200 for girls.

Ok, so this list is a few months old, and after several ballots by the nominating committee, 20 players nationwide will be contacted early next week to let them know that they are McDonald's All Americans.

Good Luck! A huge challenge to get to the final 20, Hopefully Hood can make the final cut.

I doubt he will but it's nice to see a future Wildcat in the discussion.

The 5th region has as many good seniors as any region this year, even the 7th and

11th, yet there are several missing from this list.

How does a certain player, whose name Im not gonna mention, make this list when he hasnt played in half of his teams games this year. I think most of this goes on AAU stuff and just who you know. Dont get me wrong there are a lot of deserving players on the list I just dont think its a true gage of the top talent in the state during the high school basketball season.

I'd say if anyone were going to make it, it'd be Hood. He seems to be the complete package.

Next year's class, we could possibly have 2 or 3.

I hope Hood makes it but dont think he will. If any from the Junior class makes McDonalds AAT they will have to pick it up a couple of notches. Hood made his big move between soph and Jr year, for a Jr to move up that much between now and senior is asking alot.

There is a 0% chance that Kentucky will have 2 Mickey D's All Americans next year.

Ok, maybe a 3% chance.

I don't think it's out of the question to have atleast 1 next year. This year's junior class is loaded and will get even more publicity over the summer on the AAU circuit.

According to ESPN, Elijah Pittman is currently ranked the 29th best SF in the country:

It is my understanding, from a very reliable source, that every member of the Derek Smith All Stars AAU team made the list. Congratulations to these worthy players, this may be a FIRST for any state AAU program.:thumb:

It is an honor to be recognized and nominated. I agree that it would be a challenge to get even one player actually involved in the game. It seems like the rest could at least get cheeseburgers or something.

Agree, I mean no disrespect when I say that and would take my name just to be mentioned as a honor.

I hope they get at least a free t-shirt, " McD's Nominee"
