With all the talk about teams running up the score in a lot of games this year. This would be a good time to ask should we have a mercy rule adopted for Kentucky next year! Whether it be 25 point lead in the second half or something close to that, we definitely need something. Some may argue that is where the subs get their time, well put them in earlier if it is going to be a blow out game and let them get some time earlier in the game when it's a 15 point lead instead of waiting till it's 30. Just an idea.

No mercy rule is needed.

I agree.

It's simple...play competition at your level and you won't see 30+ point blow outs.

Blowouts have ALWAYS been around, and happened more than most would think, the only difference is the internet sites and boards such as BGP. Much easier to see almost every score in the state.

Yes, it was in a college game, but UK was down at LSU by 31 at the half, UK put it together and won by 4! I have seen HS teams down by 11 + with less than 1 1/2 minutes to play that end up winning games.

No mercy rule is necessary. I've seen teams come back from 25 points down.

I believe there should be a mercy rule but it has to be something that is extremely large. I believe a 100+ to 16 point victory is pointless which is why I think it should be under 5 minutes left and up by 75+ you call the game. No need for the last 5 minutes of embarrassment.

There should be no mercy rule in any sport. Coaches/conscience/sportmanship should prevent blow-outs. But having said this, there are always going to be blow-outs. Losing and losing bad is part of life.

I could handle a mercy rule such as a running clock being put into the effect, only if the losing coach requested it. This would be very rare, and maybe not needed at all, with both teams knowing of its possibility.

I would think the losing coach would not choose to take it unless, he has given up and the winning coach fails to compensate afterwards.

I believe there should be a running clock at something like a 35 - 40 point spread.

I definitely don't see a mercy rule for basketball but I do think there should be a point spread 30 or 35 when both teams have to empty their bench. Then if it gets close again , send in the starters. Its disgusting to see teams who have the obvious advantage continue to pour it on. Both teams should be either by rules or at least by human ethics to send in the bottom 5-7 players. My opinion.

I'd say no, but I've been present to see situations where one team just was so outmatched that even the scrubs could not do anything right. In 03/04, Warren Central won 119-44 versus Metcalfe County, the biggest blowout in school history. The starters sat the last quarter and a half, and the deep bench played the entire fourth quarter. In the fourth, Central outscored Metcalfe 30-4. This was a region game, so it's not really an issue of one team scheduling out of the ordinary, they just simply were so outmatched that they couldn't even compete with the bench.

If you institute a mercy rule you are just ruining the game!

Good coaches usually take care of that :isurrender:

Bad coaches get talked about on BGP ::taz:

NO !

Thats why I added my possible exemption. It would add a new level to complaining on these forums. As a whole, I agree!
