Sandlin, Coldiron, and Hilton

Cornbread for sure... not Coldiron.. I used to think he was the best but he tends to have his favorite coaches and spends a lot of time debating the calls with them.

 

Sandlin does well.

 

My three would be Samdlin, Knollman and Cornbread..

 

How about changing the refs from region to region every year. I think when they have too close of a relationship with some of the Coaches is is perceived as favortism.

You Coldiron naysayers do know he calls the All 'A' Finals every year and 3 years ago called the Sweet 16 final. He is not "debating" his calls with the coaches. If a coach would like an explanation every coach should get one as long as they go about it the right way. That's what makes him one of the best.

I really used to like it when he called games.. He was one of the best. I guess the debate issue would depend on which side of the call you are on.

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong on this...but, I believe this used to be done during the regional tournament. The 8th region would send their officials to another region to officiate, and in return would get a different set of eyes to call their own tourney.

 

The problem, from what I understand, is that it got to a point where nobody wanted to have 8th region officials anymore...they were apparently that bad. So, when nobody wants to trade with you...you keep your guys at home. Hence you see the same officials at the region that you've had during the regular season and districts.

 

What's transpired over the past 5 years or so (maybe a few more?) is that there's finally been an infusion of young blood into the officiating ranks. Not that all of these younger guys are better...some are, some aren't. But, what we've seen I think is the overall rising of the "talent pool". Which is why I think you've seen some of these guys already mentioned in this post at some high profile games (All-A, Sweet 16, etc.). I think things are definitely looking up, especially compared to 10-15 years ago.

 

As far as swapping officials during the regular season, I don't think it'll ever happen. The regions are just too big and there's too much ground to cover for these guys. You can't really expect a guy to work a 9 to 5 job in Oldham County, and then make it somewhere like Fleming County easily for a 7:30 tip. At least not on a regular basis.

Please know your facts. The 8th region has been asked to switch with several regions in the recent past. But the coaches will not allow it. If you recall back, three maybe four years ago, a switch was made with the 7th. The coaches felt they did not receive in return the level of officiating they sent out. So they have for the last three years voted to stay in region. They feel like at least they have an idea how the game will be called with same guys they see all year..... As far as it depends on witch side you fall on didnt carroll get beat in the All A region tourney by Gallatin?:isurrender:

You are right...when he actually makes a call. The calls he makes are good, but he, IMO, locks up during the game. I rarely see him blow the whistle.

The last few games I have seen him referee, which were big district 32nd games, he barely blew his whistle. However when he does decide to make some calls they're usually accurate

I am not sure that he called that game ..but he usually does call many Gallatin Co. games. I know he did not call the girls all A game.

 

Maybe he is great.. Just not my 1st choice anymore.

Hilton has not called a game I have seen in a long time. So I can not judge him yet.

Coldiron, Teague, Knollman for me.

 

You've got to be kidding! Teague and Knollman are so unfair toward certain schools, its incredible; they must like your team. Wouldn't want either of them because of this. Teague is just plain bad and Knollman may be o.k. at times but his inability to be fair to both teams is difficult to watch. He showed no courage whatsoever in the Owen/Henry Class A final.

 

The only reason Coldiron calls the Class A is because of his previous reputation. I have to agree he spends too much time talking to the coaches.

 

I like Hendricks and Morris and Watkins (yes I'm serious).
