southernkyhoops
Is Lee DeForrest at Garrard the 12th region coach of the year? It sure would be hard to pick agaist him. He should be atop the wish list for alot of coaching vacancies in central Kentucky this summer. Do you think Garrard can keep him? He sure has turned that program around! Plato
Lee is a class guy and very smart. I'm sure he's focused on finishing out THIS year the right way.
LCPATS
He is, in my opinion. He has them playing the best ball in the 12th right now. It will be interesting to see if he stays in Lancaster, and if he will be able to sustain the the success.

ebayer
Coach Jones from McCreary Central has been back to back 12 region coach of the year and he hasn't been able to even get runner up in the district. While Coach Jackson at Lincoln County has managed to win back to back 12th region titles and hasn't gotten a sniff of it. I say Garrard's coach deserves it as of 02-02-2009, but there is still a lot of season left. Lets see how the last 7-9 games go before we crown him. SouthernSportsFan
It's chosen before the tournament, and McCreary has really been the best regular season team the last two seasons.

Lincolns only loss over the last season was to McCreary Central in the Region. I think McCreary dropped 4 or 5 regular season regional games. Lincolns only loss over the last season was to McCreary Central in the Region. I think McCreary dropped 4 or 5 regular season regional games. Over the last two seasons McCreary Central has lost seven regular season games to regional opponents while Lincoln County has lost three. In 2007, McCreary Central fell to West Jessamine, Southwestern, Somerset and twice to Wayne County. In 2008, the Raiders lost to West Jessamine and Rockcastle County. In 2007, Lincoln County fell to Boyle County and McCreary Central, while losing only to McCreary Central in 2008. So realistically, you could argue that Lincoln County has been the better regular season and postseason team in the 12th Region over the last two years. The only counter-argument is that McCreary Central beat Lincoln County twice without losing to the Patriots.

He should be atop the wish list for alot of coaching vacancies in central Kentucky this summer. Do you think Garrard can keep him? He sure has turned that program around! I think DeForest has to be considered the Coach of the Year in the 12th Region today. Most people in the region thought Garrard would have a solid team, but I don't think anyone predicted 16-3 at this point. As for Garrard keeping him, I'm sure the administration in Lancaster will do everything they can to keep him. The question is will Coach DeForest look to move on. I personally think he has aspirations higher than high school coaching and perhaps the right job might get him to move. I agree that Coach DeForest has helped elevate the Garrard program, but it's not like Garrard County has been a doormat in the region. Over the last 11 seasons, Garrard County has compiled seven winning records, two tying records, and only two losing seasons (12-15 in 2004 when they actually won the district title and a rebuilding 5-19 record in 2006). He is, in my opinion. He has them playing the best ball in the 12th right now. It will be interesting to see if he stays in Lancaster, and if he will be able to sustain the the success. Garrard was playing the best ball prior to the ice storm. If the Lions play tomorrow night against Danville it will be their first game in nine days. Hopefully the layoff has allowed the players to get some rest, but has there been any rust developed? Sustaining success will be difficult next season because Garrard loses around 90% of its offense. There are a couple pieces returning next season and the freshman team is solid, but next year could be rough in Lancaster. I say Garrard's coach deserves it as of 02-02-2009, but there is still a lot of season left. Lets see how the last 7-9 games go before we crown him. This is the most important statement in the thread. There is a whole lot of basketball to be played before anything is settled. I'm sure that Coach DeForest would love to be Coach of the Year, but I'd say given the option he'd rather coach the last game of the season at Rupp Arena. But since this award is voted on before post season, I think you have to beat the best to be the best. Lincoln County didn't do that in either season, even as the favored team.
