Boone County 58 Covington Catholic 42

Boone didnt look good and won by 16 in a low scoring game? Did Cov Cath just play flat out awful or what?

Yes. Bad shots. Missed shots. No inside game. Got beat down the floor by the big man of Boone occasionally for easy shots. Many breakouts for Boone.

Having soon both Boone and Holmes, how do you see that game playing out next week?

Both Holmes and Boone suffer from letting teams hang around a bit. I really think Gabbard is going to give Riley problems offensively. He is a physically strong PG with some quickness. Boone doesn't appear to shoot well from the outside and to be honest they didn't do well inside either so that's a problem.

I'd guess Holmes by 10 to 15 and that's with them continuing to play in cruise control.

I'll go with 'or what'. That team doesn't believe it can win at this point.

I guess I should not have been surprised, but I was by the lack of scoring by CovCath's big guys. If I am not mistaken, only two points.

I really enjoy watching McFarland with the ball in the paint. If you're open you're getting the ball. Him at the high post with the ball is trouble. Him on the short corner is also a big problem. You want to limit his touches to outside the arc.

To have an inside game you have to be able to get the ball inside. Too many turnovers and bad passes.

No question that's part of the challenge but as you saw tonite either the person who has the ball on the block doesn't look to score or the person simply doesn't put a basketball move on in order to score. In no way is there one area to blame for this season. Its a shared effort/failure.

Very true on both points, especially true with the second.

Another point, CovCath coach is always calling for patience to slow the game. Half court offense is a weakness this year. They should let them run more.

Believe me, I know it is a TEAM effort/failure. However, if you watched the same game as I did tonight, you saw that the big men got the ball maybe a total of 2 or 3 times the whole game. I saw them posting up with no result. Not right for them to work their tails off to be completely ignored. Our run around the perimeter offense is sorry to say the least, time for something new.

I also agree that the slow down patience offense is not working either. Let them run it out. It's sad to watch them waste an entire minute only to shoot a shot that bricks out.

On another note, what is going on with the JV team? Heard it was their fourth straight loss. Almost had the comeback tonight. Nice to see Wilson with them, he played well. Also like what I see from Reidinger. Good to see Cubby back in uniform, had a rough game from what I saw, but hopefully he'll get back to normal.
