mcpapa Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Lots of discussion about this in the Mason County-Madison Central thread. If it is down, what are the possible reasons?
doomer Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 At Franklin County we have actually had pretty good attendance this year, but the student section is not as large as I thought it would be. I have noticed at some road games attendance is not good at all. I think the weather and economy have put a lot of people in a funk.
gold sunrise Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Attendance at the GRC games is way up. With this "super" group of Sophomores and Zollo, we are having great crowds. Most I have seen in the 18 years I have lived in Clark Co.
Ms Liberty Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Elliott Co has a ful house no matter where they are.
eccheer Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 If anything the attendance at Elliott County games has increased.:ylsuper: Even at regular season away games!! I can remember 2 years ago (and even last year) probably 1/3 of the people now traveling with those Lions were in attendance then. It was nothing to walk into an away game close to tip off and find plenty of seating available but now it's a whole different story. If you don't arrive a couple of hours ahead of time, the seating becomes an issue.
mcpapa Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 I'd say attendance is down at Mason County. The student section is smaller. I chalk it up to a number of factors. Less disposable income and crappy weather are certainly factors. In Mason County's case, I truly believe that Lofton and Miller were good for a couple hundred tickets per game, at the least.

I agree, Lofton and Miller brought fans from many counties in the area outside of Mason.
Lion Mania Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Not from my advantage point each night. Got to arrive 2 hours before game time to get a good seat for Elliott County games. Then by the time the JV game starts the gym is packed to capacity and they are turning people away. Like a snow ball getting bigger and bigger as it goes downhill, the situation will only get worse in the coming weeks. All the people who haven't been to a game in years and years will start arriving soon. Mason game (at Elliott) I plan on going to school with the players and then sneaking into the gym to reserve my seat before school lets out.

This is a once-in-a-generation team that is playing in Sandy Hook. In your honest opinion, what will the situation be next year?
All In Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I'd say attendance is down at Mason County. The student section is smaller. I chalk it up to a number of factors. Less disposable income and crappy weather are certainly factors. In Mason County's case, I truly believe that Lofton and Miller were good for a couple hundred tickets per game, at the least. $5 tickets are one reason, but the atmosphere is not like in the past, band never plays and lets face it the Lofton days were special, plus just no competition in the 10th,except maybe Clark County, but think when Mason is on they beat anyone in the 10th by 10-15, but that's why they play the games.
Newman Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Attendance at Ashland games is certainly down, not just this year but over the past few years. You would think the student section would be bigger given the fact that half the team has quit.
Lion Mania Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Makes perfect sense. This is a once-in-a-generation team that is playing in Sandy Hook. In your honest opinion, what will the situation be next year? Obviously not as packed every single night like this year. But with Timmy Knipp and some good young players back they will still be competitive in the 16th region and have a good crowd each night. Heck what is there to do in the evenings in Sandy Hook but attend a HS Basketball game.
friedtaters Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I've been to three Montgomery home games and attendance seems to be way down for the Indians. Not sure what the problem is. I was really shocked at the turnout at the home opener.
mcraycraft Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 $5.00 tickets for adults and STUDENTS! For students it equals out to a $10-12 night if you go to the concession stand. And worse if you have a girlfriend!
NkuRoyal31 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Ticket prices, economy, weather(espically for the older fans). Although Mason Co has a very solid team and are very good they dont have that one star player like they did the past 8 years that everyone wants to come night in and night out to see what they could possibly do and admire their talent. I feel as Mcpapa said those star players alone are worth an extra couple hundred fans and bring in people from surronding counties, such as Bracken,Lewis,Fleming etc.
