Yes they do, but they do not apply to Showcase or tournament games such as the MCIT. The student section this year is pitiful as well. They don't even deserve to be called Fieldhouse Krayzies.

 

I think the crowds have been down everywhere. I see highlights on TV and notice maybe 200 people in the stands in the Lexington and Louisville schools and about everywhere I've been.I noticed the tournament held at Lex Cath was really down this year as compared to the past. I don't know whether it's the financial crunch or just a lack of interest. It seems the rural high schools have better fan support and bigger crowds than the urban schools.

Just wonder if Elliott's crowd will be as good next year. I have been to several of Mason's games this year and it seems to me they travel pretty good and home crowds are much better than most.

Nice win for the royals. I saw Madison Central a couple of weeks ago in Montgomery county and this is an impressive win for Mason IMO.

Disagree, the talent level hasn't fell off that much if any at all. Lofton was a draw when he played for many different reasons. The economy is a difference from 2003 to present day. In fact there is a boat load of talent from the freshmen class up to the senior class presently. Mason Countys last appearance in a championship game at rupp before 2003 was 1981, so there is another factor for the large crowd on that March night. Someone help me out here, does the school system still offer incentives to students to get in free at games like for grades, etc? Some of these games are affected by Title IX, which girls games and boys games are on prime time nights. Such is the case coming up on February 6th when Mason visits Clark. The Mason girls will be on the road to Brossart the same night. Prime time nights are killing crowds, maybe not the major reason at Mason County, but across the board it has to hurt schools across the state. Just my opinion, I know when I was in high school years ago, there were different incentives for the student body to get in, ticket prices weren't sometimes five dollars and the crowds with much less talent level on the floor were greater.

 

I agree with your reasoning but in the same sense If you go back the past 4-5 years and look at ticket sales I guarantee the numbers would be in decline in every year. IMO the student section hasnt been much since they were pretty big through the 03-06 seasons, youd think alot more students would want to come out and cheer on guys they go to school with and are friends with and support them but I guess not. Not having high caliber players like Lofton and Miller hurt but honestly I dont think the crowds were even huge for Miller last season. The past 3 years when Ive attended games I look around the gym and just think wow the amount of people that use to come compared to now is crazy espically when their putting good teams on the floor. You cant tell me there hasnt been a drop off and if you do Ill honorable take a bow out.

There aren't players that are high profile according to the hoops scout guru's across the nation like Miller was a year ago, but collectively this group of players are talented and each class has someone or a few players that are talented, have several different variables that they bring to the court. Again I will restate what I said in my first post, no there aren't any ticket drawing players yet, but collectively this group is a very talented bunch. Like Mcpapa says in a post above, 4 dollars is not bad to watch 2 games and I agree, but when you have a medium size family that sometimes puts a crunch on a household of lets say 5-6. By the time the gate, concessions roll around its an easy 30 dollars for a family of that size. I know the admission is reasonable for two games, and no I don't have a real solution. Just dropping possibilities to the decline of the attendance. I still say Title IX is a bit of the problem as well or at least a contributor. Again these are my opinions and no you don't have to take a honorable bow out 31.

I wholeheartedly agree with this; the family of 5-6 for the most part really has to pick and choose the games they attend.

 

I have a season ticket - quite the bargain - and my wife is a teacher and gets into the games free of charge, so it's not really a cost issue for us.

 

Maybe what we should consider is a reduced price for kids. After all, from what I see, they would make up for the discounted ticket price in concessions.

 

I think I'll start a thread, as we (and I am certainly guilty here) of getting away from what was a nice win for the Royals.

He is starting to play down low and not just drift around the arc. It's awfully easy to fall in love with the 3-point shot, but Setty is big enough to mix it up under the basket.
