I have been in several mixed race relationships. I have heard quite a bit. I still continue to date whomever I choose regardless of race, religion, or nationality.

Coming from the south, I saw a lot of racism directed towards interracial couples. One of my best friends dated a black guy for a while and the crap she had said about her and to her was sickening.

My son was dating a girl in high school and the girls father told my son he would not allow his daughter to date a bi-racial person........

As far as comments, I grew up in a racist family that would make comments. Until I went to college and came back with a backbone to challenge them and call them out when they made the comments. They have stopped at least when I am around.

There are members of my family that I haven't spoken to in over 30 years because of the same reason.

I have a friend who was not hired for a job out of college. The reason he was given was that they needed to fill minority quotas and he didn't fit the categories.

I also lost two jobs. One because I am a white male ... and the second because they didn't hire men to fill this position. I came within a hair of filing a reverse discrimination lawsuit. :irked::irked:

I've been stopped by a Police Officers in Southern Indiana for "not looking like you should be around an area like this boy." I also overheard him say the n-word. It was like he said it to himself, loudly enough for me to hear as well.

 

I've been stopped a few other times in different places for "fitting descriptions of perpatrators". I never found out what crime those perpatrators I fit the description of.

 

 

There have been others, but the only incident in my 29 years that ever hurt me, was not truly directed at me.

 

My wife is white, and before we were married, we went on a visit to see some of her family in Tennessee. While walking around in Gatlinburg and Knoxville, she told me how she could feel dirty looks at her. Later on, we went out to eat in near Knoxville, and my wife was told to her face, how much a discrace she was "to us White Christians" for being with something like that- pointing at me. I had to be restrained. I would consider myself to be a very calm person. I have probably raised my voice in anger 5 times in my adult life, and I just lost it. Would have gladly spent a night or two in jail for that one.

Racism is disgraceful. Disguising racism as Christianity is indefensible. I feel sorry for those who do both, they need a lot of prayers, IMO.

I find the subtle/backhanded racial comments disappointing.

 

If I read/hear "(Athlete XYZ) speaks very well" I can guarantee you there is a 99% chance that athlete is black. I'd say 100% but someone will surely find an example to prove otherwise.

Racism is literally ignorance. I know that because I have relatives who fell into that trap for a long time. One of my cousins then started dating and eventually married a black man.

 

Today, he is 100% part of that family and those that used to fall into that trap now look at him as no different than them.

:thumb: I thought that you would but I included the reference for the benefit of occasional visitors to the forum, who may not be as politically aware as the regulars here. The comment would make no sense to a reader who is unaware of Biden's gaffe-ridden history.

I always feel the same way. But what about when a black person describes a black athlete that way? Yesterday on Mike and Mike Kordell Stewart described Larry Fitzgerald as being articulate.

 

It always reminds me of the Chris Rock bit about Colin Powell.

This has happened to me on numerous occasions. Being bi-racial, I've had many arguments with people when I've said that I was black, and they disagreed. Their argument was that I was just as much white as black, which is correct. However, society sees me as an African-American. The easiest way for me to explain it to those folks is that when I go a white man's house to take his daughter out, he doesn't see me as half-white, he sees me as half-black, or black all together.

 

I've also experienced times when my mother and I (she is white) have been out in public and have gotten many stares. She says that used to happen a lot more when I was younger.

This has also happened to me at least 4 or 5 times in Frankfort. The most recent being a few months ago.
