There really should be no reason for them not to have a new coach by now. This is getting pretty pathetic.

 

From what I've heard, they have some names in mind, but there aren't really any teaching positions open for an outsider to come on board as both a teacher and coach. They recently sent out letters of intent to teachers to see if any vacancies may be on the horizon. These are due back by March 1st. Impending retirements may open up a teaching spot for a new coach/teacher outside of the district. Trying to locate a teaching position for the new coach may be the cause for delay.

From what I gather its between former Covcath coach Dave Brossart and Nick Rice. Pretty sure they interview this week. I think its an easy decision if its between those two.

Newport is going to loose the hole off season if they don't find some one soon. They should have been in the weight rooom. Some one should step up and get them started. Don't they have a assistant coach that could get things moving?

:thumb: Its an easy decision and should have been made already. I'll be really dissapointed with the people in charge if he isnt named the coach.

Ive heard they are going to interview this week but may not make a decision til April 1st. Hate for it to take that long but guess it would be because of the situation with the teaching position.

Newport's biggest problem IMO already is that the majority of the players do not take the weight serious. Yes, IMO and from what I have seen the players are not as serious with the weight room that they should be and basically that goes for all the sports there. IMO - Nick Rice would be number one in my book to build a more serious program for Newport. Brossart - forget him - IMO he is not the right fit for Newport. Coleman would be good but I just don't see him coming there. NHS Big Daddy is right - they should have already have been lifting, in fact they should have been in the weight room a few weeks after the season. Face it, the senior class that is leaving had a lot of talent and didn't produce. Why? No one actually knows. Newport will have a descent back field this year with Short and McDay carrying the ball. Collins also adds a punch as a running QB. If you bring someone like Nick Rice into the program you will add a motivator which the program needs. Does anyone know Newport's schedule this coming season? I've heard that it has been changed and that they have picked a lot of 1A schools.

The interviews were done on Thursday. I can say the coach will be named sometime in the next week. :dancingpa
