Nick Rice, Newport Alum, TMC standout (from what I hear), and current assistant at Dayton

Charlie Coleman

Melange (sp?), former assistant at Holmes and current teacher at Newport High.

I think Melange could be the best out of the 4, one reason he is already there holding a teaching position. He also has a good footbal back ground.

He also coached linebackers at TMC in 05 as well.

Congrats Nick, for getting the coaching job. The front office really made a good selection. The fact that Nick has played football in Newport his whole life, for the firefighters and through the system. Before taking it to the next level playing for TMC and for Cin. Swarm. And he probly could still play, so let's say that he can talk the talk and walk the walk. Good Luck

I believe they have an intersquad scrimmage on Saturday morning.

Hopefully he'll be there a LONG time. The coaching turnover the last few years has not helped.

It is home for him. That is the most important thing. The past few coaches were good coaches, but were not Newport born and bred. Nick is, he loves the city and the school.

Newport has had a tough week at practice. Short and Slusher both are out with ankel injurys.

Cody Short might be out for the season. This could be a big loss. He would have been a 3 year starter.

They will miss his senior leadership on the field and the experience. I know he and the coaching staff was expecting a lot from him. He will be going to the doctor Monday he may find out something then.
