Covington Catholic vs. Highlands (01/05)

Featured Replies

This game is being played in the Sauna at Highlands. The Colonels are playing much better basketball since the last time these two teams met in the Buckeye Prep Classic. Maile is their workhorse and Ives has found some range from 3pt land. Isler and Wellbrock seem to be getting more looks as well.

The Birds look like they are working Grubbs the big 6'5 JR into their offensive scheme and the defense is still holding teams under 50pts.

I like the Birds at home in a low scoring affair.

HHS 48

CovCth 42

Since the Highlands gym is by my guess one of the smallest or at least close to being the smallest (seating wise) gyms in the ninth region, you had better arrive early to get in. If you can't get there early, then tune in to CovCath Internet Radio to listen to the game!

Highlands by 6

Looking at my consistently suspect crystal ball I see a Highlands win but in a much closer contest than the game played at Bank of Ky Arena a couple of weeks ago. On the positive side, we won't have to listen to the shrieking PA from Bluegrass-Buckeye Challenge host Ms. Leis-Raleigh.

I don't know who will win. My heart says CovCath, my head says Highlands. I do think it will be a much better game than the first time around.

If CCH plays the same interior defense they played over at NKU, this will be another ugly game.

I still like Highlands in this one, but it will be closer than the last time they met. Maile has been playing good ball so Highlands will need to shut him down again in order to get the same result as the last matchup.

I'll be curious to see how many minutes Mitch Shover gets. I don't expect it to be ugly like the last game. Completely different enviroment with CCH feeling a little better about themselves and HHS possibly questioning themselves a bit. Should be fun, loud, and hot.

Highlands by a lot because I don't think Shover is healthy yet.

I think Highlands gets the W but in a much closer game than the first go around. Covcath has played better as of late.

Anyone know if Isler and Pauly will be playing? I know both were sick and didn't play Friday night against Lafayette.

My guess is Isler will play as his illness was just a stomach virus but the question is how strong will he be after being sick just a couple of days ago. Pauly not so sure of and I highly doubt that Shover plays more than a couple of minutes if that....

If the Colonels were at full strenght I would pick CovCath to win, but.....it is, what it is....

Covcath had everyone but Shover first game and lost by 17...not sure I agree with you there. I agree it'd be closer though.

That is a big but Eta Rho! Shover, if I am not mistaken was chosen as one of the top five/six players in the Ninth Region this summer! Now take any teams top player (except for Holmes as they are so deep) away from them and what happens?
