6th grade middle school boys

Wayne Co defeated South Laurel in the championship game. Wayne led by 6 at halftime but won going away. Report I got was the big guy for Wayne really played well in the second half and as normal the little guys shot the lights out for Wayne. Congrats to Wayne Co. and great run by the 6th grade bunch from South.

Congratulations to Wayne! They have a nice bunch of 6th graders. Size, ball handling, rebounding, shooting, defense and they know how to play the game. Even though they destroyed my favorite school, Scott County, it was a joy to watch them play. In the first half against SC, they dominated the inside. SC tried to adjust and take the big kid away and their shooters knocked down 5 3's in the 3rd quarter and I'm pretty sure none of them even hit the rim -- they were all pure.

Congratulations to Wayne Co. They were favored going into the tournament in my oppinion and they didn't let me down. I was imperssed with S. Laurel's run. They also deserve a lot of credit. They broke Lincoln Co.'s press and that took Lincoln out of their game to get to the championship game. But, they ran into a beast in Wayne Co.

Congrats to each 6th grade team that made the final four! That is a big accoplishment!

Wayne was never really challenged in the tournament. South suprised some people and played a great first half agaist Wayne. I think they were the 2nd best team there. Lincoln is a very impressive team and easily 3rd best. After that everyone was pretty close.

The biggest upset of the tourney to me was Meece over Elliott without Dishman. To be fair, Elliott lost one of their little guards in the 3rd quarter but Somerset was leading at the time.

Some other teams have really improved including Mason County, South Laurel, and LCA. Anderson County was the suprise team of the tourney to me, not only did they come from 13 back to put us out but turned around and played Lincoln to a 6 point game.

Congratulations to Wayne County, they were the best hands down, came in undefeated, and won with the pressure of being the favorite. Coach David Clark did a great job and maybe this will ease the pain of that 89 state championship game his team lost to PRP. Great job Dave!

The 12th Region is having a 6th grade tournament in early/mid February.

It should be interesting to hear how the Lincoln and Wayne game goes if they meet in the championship!

Does anyone know of any 6th grade tournaments coming up over the next 2 or 3 weeks?

How was the officiating this weekend? At times in the past, the refs at KBA have not been great.

I was up there on Sunday to watch and the refs were outstanding. The had 2 refs per game on Saturday and 3 refs per game on Sunday.:thumb:

Lincoln can beat Wayne but Wayne is the better team. Lincoln or South would beaten Wayne if they had played a game like they did in the semifinals. Wayne was fortunate to be playing JCTMS instead of one of the other two.

I think the key to beating Wayne is to shut down their perimiter game and hope the big boy doesn't just wear you out. We played them close twice this season. Take away the 3 and if you have a good big kid you've got a chance. We played them straight up man to man. You can't press them and you can't zone them.

That tournament in the 12th will be great. Fitz had a really good idea putting that on. One other note, 3 of the final 4 played in the AAU league at Rocky Hollow, as well as Clinton and Meece. Compitition breeds success!

The Rocky Hollow league has been great for southern Ky basketball. Although the refs were sub par, it gave competitive teams an opprotunity to play one another in a local setting. Lincoln, S. Laurel, Wayne, Somerset, Clinton, Northern, and Southern were all former Rocky Hollow league participants and were all at the KBA this weekend.
