Tubby claimed it was all his agent, and he had no clue, but that doesn't really match with "We found out 6 weeks ago he was willing to leave Kentucky and come to Minnesota."

 

And unless his agent is just a rebel working on his own, you can guarantee that Tubby was invovled. :thumb:

So you are saying Tubby tanked the last 11 games? Sounds like that's what you're suggesting, since negotiating for a new job while holding a job is not unprofessional.

The fact is, if OTS had wanted to stick it to UK, he would have stayed and made Barnhart fire him (Would he have fired him?) or waited until late May or June and left then. By getting on with it, he did UK and Minnesota a favor.

There was zero wrong with it. If you have a job you aren't happy with are you going to quit, and then go looking for a new job, or are you going to find another job before you quit?

What i questioned was Wireman's assertion that the contract was "negotiated" before play began in the SEC Tourney.

 

I remember the article that you linked. It basically says that he found out that Tubby might be interested in leaving. It also sayings that he contact Tubby directly until after the season. It went on to say that Tubby, during their initial meeting after the season, asked about GPA, gradudation rates and other information pertaining to the team. I would suggest that if a contract had already been negotiitated then these facts would have already been revealed to Tubby either directly or through a 3rd party.

 

Do I doubt that Tubby had made up his mind if he could find a suitable job, that he would leave. Not for a second. Do I think the move to Minn was a done deal before he met after the season? No it wasn't.

 

In fact the article directly says the deal wasn't done:

Its impossible to say when negotiations started, but I doubt they started when the AD first talked to Tubby. Based on the 6 week timeline (which takes us back well into the regular season), I have to believe that Tubby knew of some type of negotiation between his agent and UM (and was therefore "involved") before the SEC tourney.

 

I don't think Tubby's agent went out and negotiated a contract w/ Minnesota without Tubby's knowledge, showed it to Tubby for the first time and he almost immediately accepted the job.

The fact is that NOONE knows when the contract was negotiated, and to assert information that is pure speculation as 'fact' is laughable.

 

I didn't post anymore as I found the concepts many have posted on this thread as just another way to get in digs on OTS. Fact is, he is a class act and I was proud to have him as the UK coach. He did not disparage UK or the fans when he left. I don't know if I could have shown such restraint. But then again, many of my fellow UK fans take anything that isn't praising our Wildcats and fans as the best EVER as an insult (you know, the 18%).

 

I believe that Tubby knew he wasn't going to stay after that season was over. I think his agent was trying to find a good match. But he knew (as did Bill Curry when he left Alabama to visit with UK many years ago), that the moment he got on that plane, he would no longer be the UK coach. His agent found a good opportunity and good fit for him, he trusted his agent, and knew that the money would be good (given his reputation in 49 of the 50 US states).

 

If anyone thinks you have to quit a job before you look for another one in the real world, you are deluding yourself. You have to put feelers out there. I did it and when I left a job in WV to move back to KY, my boss was actually shocked because he thought I had picked up even more intensity the past 3 months before I left.

Has anyone seen how much Tubby aged while he was at KY? Look at the 98 title game and look at him now. The man did a solid job at KY, but look what it took out of him. As long as he makes the NCAA most of the time at Minnesota, he'll be just fine. That's exactly where he needs to be, and I think he knows that.

Does it matter really when he took the job? Every year that Coach Pitino was @ UK we went through the same thing about him leaving and accepting another position. I seriously doubt he accepted anything prior to the UK season being over.

 

He will not leave Minnesota for many reasons, he is ADORED in Minnesota, has a solid program and one that is getting better, has a top-10 recruiting class according to ESPN coming in, just had a top-15 recruiting class. Things are so good for Tubby @ Minnesota there is NO WAY he leaves.
