Why?

He did it on what essentially was a broken leg.

Also, and this may sound over the top, but I don't think it is. Watching Phelps, and seeing him get the record, it's one of those moments where I'll remember exactly where I was, and what I'd been doing when it happen. Similar to 9/11, or other historical events. Just an amazing task.

Phenomenal Phelps!

I've torn my ACL 3 times. It's not the same as a broken leg. Had he done it on a broken leg, then that would be MIGHTY impressive. The ACL injury is nagging as far as an injury goes for a golfer, it can swell up while he's playing, and twisting when swinging can really hurt like heck. To say it's even close to playing on a broken leg just is not the case though. Wouldn't surprise me if he got a shot before playing.

Michacl Phelps winning the 8 gold medals gets my vote.

Phelps.

Like to see Bolt's accomplishments on the list. I'm sure if he were from the US. we'd think more highly of what he did.

No love for Josh Hamilton's HR Derby?

It was nice and all but I'd be will to bet it didn't have half the viewers as some of the others on the list. Unless you count ESPN highlight reals, then maybe.

I'll always remember and I think swimming is boring...

He also had a double stress fracture of his left tibia. I might be wrong but to me that is essentially a broken leg.

Impressive. But people have competed with at least as serious injuries before and will again. 8 Olympic medals? Well we know for sure it hasn't happened before, and I'll guess someone will do something with a broken bone before 8 medals are around hanging one dudes neck.
