Wow...I'm very surprised by this score. I thought GRC would win and it sounds like Lexcath took care of business in their home tournament.

I hate to see my fellow 10th region team loose here,Sounds like LexCath turned it up in the 2nd half.

It was the Vee Sanford show tonight, he scored 31.

Didn't get to see the game tonight I was on my way back from Bowling Green but I heard what really hurt us was shooting 20% in the second half! All in all though these tournaments can wear teams out playing 3-5 games over 3 days is rough! I saw a tournament at Franklin-Simpson this weekend that teams played 4 games in two days! Those kids were so tired they weren't even playing organized basketball it looked like a pickup game! But I'm not sure if I really like tournaments like this to judge how good the team is.

How can a tournament that has 4 games in 4 days not help judge a team? You must do it in March to bring home the only trophy that counts and everyone is playing for.

Yes that is very true that you have to play 4 games in 4 days come March including the morning/night sessions if you make it to semifinals. Tonight Clark just simply had no answer for Sanford. I think he had around 12 points in the first quarter alone. He was a real force tonight and impressed me with his constant floaters and strong drives to the basket. Sanford will be a nice College Basketball Player one day! Also with Hatton going out in 3rd quarter Clark really lost a lot of leadership on the floor with him out, he is the only captain on the team, and hopefully he is ok and its just a sprained ankle!

A couple of weeks ago there was a thread on "the front-runners for Mr. Basketball", and while many have conceded the honor to Mr. Hood, I said that Sanford was next on the list. He is tough to handle.

 

Hopefully Mr. Hatton will be okay.

Very true, as it was around a 15 point game whenever Hatton went out. I was just saying without him on the floor that pretty much shot down any hope of a comeback without floor leadership. GRC didn't handle the press well by any means. LC just had a better gameplan tonight with the press and forcing many turnovers like you said. I watched LC's first couple of games in the tournament and I thought that Clark would easily win this one judging by LC's performance, but boy was I wrong. Sanford, like I said earlier, was just unstoppable and scored at will tonight. Clark didn't match up well at all with him man to man. I was also at the game tonight and just thought that if Hatton was on the floor that they could've mounted a little comeback.

Sanford scored at will because Clark played him straight up man to man and Lex Cath opened the middle up and let him drive. Most shots he made were under the basket. I thought the big boy LC had under the basket pretty well scored at will also, just didn't get the ball as much .You ask how do you prevent this and the answer is with a zone defense.That's the purpose of a zone ,if they beat you ,they have to beat you from outside. I don't think Clark was would have made a comeback regardless of who was in the game or not in the game. Clark really hurts if they lose anyone of their first five . Hatton has been playing great ball and wish him a speedy recovery. Clark needs them all to win.

First let me say a big congrats to Lexington Catholic and their coaching staff. You made the adjustment at the half, and shut down the Cards in the 3rd quarter. Vee Stanford put on a show last night.I really like the way this kid plays. I agree he has to be considered for Mr. Basketball

 

GRC shot 65% first half...we are down one. Come out second half and we shoot 20%.I stated yesterday in our win over Hazard that defense wins games...well Catholic proved that point in the second half last night.

 

Very proud of the showing that the Cards put on in this tourney. Beating Hopkins Central, Trinity and Hazard was a tuff road to get to the finals.

 

Robert Hatton has a ankle sprain. Not sure if it is the same ankle he has hurt earlier in the year. On the post game radio show, coach said it was swelling real bad...I am sure he will have it checked out today. He is a very tuff young man, he has played on a bad ankle since the Pendleton Co game. He is a team first type of kid...gives everything he has,and plays with so much heart. Such a great kid on and off the court, and as D-dawg stated....so are all of our kids. This is why this team will always have a special place in my heart, win or lose.

St.X held Sanford to single digit scoring in the semis.

Help man and some zone was used to contain him.GRC has more athletic personnel and seems as if they employed similar strategy,Sanford would not have had 31 points.

I have been wondering for a few games now why GRC doesn't play zone! I remember a few sets where they played a 1-3-1 zone but it seems it was against Elliot Co. in the pre-season. Just a passing thought.

The 3rd qtr was the difference. LexCath caused a bunch of turnovers and when Clark Co. did break the press Rogers didn't finish well during a 3 or 4 minute period. Also once Hatton went out it hurt their chances of making a run. LexCath has a nice team. Both teams are pretty young and wll improve a lot as the year goes along.

Lexington Catholic found the weak spot in the GRC offence. A good press will shut the card's guards down. Most of the points of the 3rd quarter run were made off turnovers. If Clark county could have made this a half court game, it would have been a different outcome. It is hard to score when you don't get the chance to shoot. Catholic made a great adjustment during halftime and came out on fire.

I predicted this in the LC GRC matchup thread. Lex Cath has better guards than GRC hands down!!!!!!!
