I think it was a bad trade, at least as far as this year goes. If the desire was instant impact, well, objective not achieved.

I agree with HB20, time will tell if Detroit's is in this league. What made the Walker trade so awful is that the Cowboys used the draft pick to draft Emmitt Smith. If the Lions use the Cowboys pick to bring in a future Hall of Famer (I have my doubts about the Lions organization's ability to do so) then it may end up on that level.

You do realize what the Cowboys did mostly because of that trade? No chance the Lions do that, so agreeing with HB makes you as wrong as HB IMO.

Do I realize? I've been a Vikings fan all my life, so yes, I do realize what they did because of the trade. No group of individuals has striven to make the Cowboys a great team over the last 40 years quite like the Minnesota Vikings (see also: NFC playoffs throughout the 1970s). The degree to which the Vikings helped turn the Cowboys into "America's Team" in the first place cannot be understated. I don't think it will go down as THE worst trade ever. That unquestionably goes to the Walker trade. But I agree with HB20 in that this one certainly has time to get worse and become one of the worst trades ever.

Excellent post, and I couldn't agree more. I can understand why Jones did it, however. So far it was a bust (Dallas not making the playoffs let alone winning the superbowl), but it has the potential to get much worse.

Even the biggest Cowboy homer (Aikman) was ripping this guy hard.

Roy Williams will only fit into the offense better as time goes on, not worse, so it's nowhere near as bad of a trade.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Roy Williams has been almost invisible in Little D so far, and I think that next year will be more of the same. And if he does start catching more balls, TO, Crayton and/or Witten are going to start complaining. :laugh:

I think Dallas had to look at it like that might be the piece that could win them the Super Bowl at the time. I also think they looked at it like their 1st + 3rd would be around the last pick of the draft in those rounds. No way they planned on it being where it is now. There's no doubt this year was a bust. Tough confrence, injuries and tough schedule but bottom line they underachieved this year.

 

Injuries? They had most of their key players for the majority of the season. The only key player (and I actually think this loss helped) lost was Roy Williams on defense. Who else was "injured"? Many other teams suffered more devastating injuries than the Cowboys and still pulled through... I don't think injuries can be an excuse in Little D.

Trading three draft picks, including a 1st and a 3rd and getting the production out of Williams that they got equals a VERY bad trade thus far. If he turns it around somehow in Little D and they manage to win a super bowl because of his improved play, I might change my tune. However, that is very unlikely. They are not a super bowl caliber team.

Most people who are big fans of a certain team have skewed judgement. I am a big Giants fan, I am not ashamed of that. But that doesn't mean this trade wasn't awful. It was a terrible trade :lol:.

Never exactly happy about the trade, but I have faith the Cowboys will be just fine next season. I can live with it.
